How do you eat haggis and when?

We all love a Sunday brunch, sausage, bacon, egg, black pudding, haggis, toast and orange as a special treat when the family get together. Anyone else have haggis apart from Burns Night?

We quite often have chicken breast topped with haggis and then wrapped in pastry. Haggis pakora is tasty too

HirplesWithHaggis · 31/12/2018 15:09

I have it whenever I fancy it, but not as part of a breakfast/brunch. Quite like the idea, though. Grin Haggis toasties are good, too.

My mum being the stereotypical highlander she is has it all the time

Wi neeps and tatties af cours

I put gravy on it Blush

Kintan · 31/12/2018 15:38

We have it maybe once a month as an easy meal with mashed potatoes. Usually just get the one from
M&S that can be microwaved.

madmum5811 · 31/12/2018 15:49

We also stuff chicken breasts with it, wrap in streaky bacon and roast. You can then slice and serve. It is delicious.

Chunks of swede roasted with onion and chunks of apple. As often as I can get away with.

I'm also rather keen on Balmoral chicken... Chicken breasts stuffed with haggis, wrapped in bacon and served with a whisky cream sauce

coldheartwarmhands · 31/12/2018 16:03

We often have "haggis in the hole" as a variation of toad in the hole - and once served it to 200 people at a Highland Gathering! Shock

ZigZagZombie · 31/12/2018 16:05

Can be eaten anywhere, any time - although I've yet to find it works with custard.

With scrambled eggs for breakfast, on pizza in Glasgow, in pakora from the takeaway or with neeps with cream & mint (a la Two Fat Ladies).

ForalltheSaints · 31/12/2018 16:09

I think I ate it in 1996. For the one and only time. There is much to love about Scotland and its culture, but haggis is not one for me.

Finfintytint · 31/12/2018 16:09

We have it now and then. I layer it in pie dish with mashed swede and mashed potato on top served with a creamy whisky sauce.

PurpleDaisies · 31/12/2018 16:10

Where do you buy it from? I really like it but can’t ever get it!

IHaveBrilloHair · 31/12/2018 16:10

With neeps and tatties a few times a year, or as a haggis supper.

homemadegin · 31/12/2018 16:10

Local butcher makes haggis lasagne which is amazing.

I also love a haggis and cheese panini

Finfintytint · 31/12/2018 16:12

Butchers will often do it. Most supermarkets will stock it in January so I freeze a couple and when anyone visits from Scotland we ask them to bring haggis ( and Stornaway black pudding).

PottyPotterer · 31/12/2018 16:16

My local pub does deep fried haggis balls with spicy whisky sauce, they're amazing as is haggis pakora with chilli sauce. Probably eat it a couple times a month.

BlankTimes · 31/12/2018 16:18

We have a single haggis-eater in the household, I've found some interesting recipes on this site. www.grantsfoods.com/haggis-product/

OliviaBenson · 31/12/2018 16:37

Ooooh haggis lasagne sounds amazing!

InMySpareTime · 31/12/2018 16:40

We have Haggis for Christmas dinner, because everyone likes it, it's easy to Bung in the slow cooker and it saves doing stuffing too.

We also make Haggis pie (decorated with asymmetric pastry legs).

Haggis with baked beans and Nachos and cheese, it's fusion but strangely awesome!

wigglybeezer · 31/12/2018 16:44

dS2 orders it at our local cafe, deep fried, in a roll, with salad! The salad always causes consternation!

Mumberjack · 31/12/2018 17:14

I love haggis as a breakfast food.
Wetherspoons does eggs balmoral which is eggs benedict but with haggis replacing the ham. I’m currently boycotting them due to their bloody brexit boss but it is delicious.

hmmwhatatodo · 31/12/2018 18:22

Vegetarian haggis is awful, just saying.

MacarenaFerreiro · 31/12/2018 18:27

We're having haggis pakoras with an Indian takeaway for dinner.

Lucisky · 31/12/2018 19:06

We've just had haggis, neeps and tatties, followed by biscotti and sweet wine for pud. Bit of a mix but it was all lovely. But will I manage to stay awake till midnight? (I don't think so somehow).

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 31/12/2018 19:14

I have haggis whenever I fancy it (quite often) but I just have it with mashed potatoes and swede.... although balmoral chicken sounds rather good....
