Soaking through an ultra tampon in an hour. This is unusual for me

I remember seeing the odd post where someone else had something similar and got good advice.

Very unusually for me I am soaking through ultra tampons in one hour, and (sorry about the detail) have massive massive clots. There’s no way I could be having a miscarriage, and feel fine in myself (slight headache is all). Is this something I should go to a walk in centre about? Or just a weird period that will hopefully end soon?

It’s been going on for 24 hours now.

Go to the walk in centre.

abbsisspartacus · 31/12/2018 10:32

Switch it for pads and go to a walk in

HollyandIvyarelivingitupagain · 31/12/2018 10:57

If you feel OK then it is probably OK.
Not unusual in my own experience. If it increases or goes on for days at the same rate go to your GP.If it lessens then it may be just an unusually heavy period for you.

Birdie6 · 31/12/2018 10:59

You could have bleeding polyps, or it could just be a heavy period. If you swap over to pads you should be able to manage it easier. See the doc if this happens again.

MarthaArthur · 31/12/2018 10:59

Actually soaking through a pad or tampon an hour can be a medical emergency. Get seen to asap especially with the headache.

faintlyridiculous · 31/12/2018 11:01

Go to the walk in centre. The advice is that if you’re soaking a pad an hour seek medical assistance. I was sent to A&E by 111 when I was doing the same and it turned out that I had fibroids and they gave me meds to help. The thread you reference was far more serious. She had a medical issue that would have killed her had she not sought help - she spent some time in hospital for sepsis iirc.

NoParticularPattern · 31/12/2018 11:02

Soaking through a pad or tampon in under an hour is a sepsis red flag. I’m not saying you have sepsis, it might be just one of those things. But I would strongly recommend you get to a GP or walk in centre ASAP. I’d even suggest A+E if you can’t get to either of the first two options today.

Madratlady · 31/12/2018 11:04

Call 111, they’ll arrange for you to be seen

Jackshouse · 31/12/2018 11:06

Definitely call 111 and they will arrange for you to be seen at the most appropriate place.

MrsAmaretto · 31/12/2018 11:07

Call 111, they will refer you to A&e. If it is not normal for you it needs to be checked out. Better safe than sorry

SharpLily · 31/12/2018 11:10

As a teen I could barely manage 20 minutes on God-awful massive tampons - some people just have heavy periods. However if this is a change from your norm then that is a red flag and is worth checking out.

Quartz2208 · 31/12/2018 11:12

yes soaking an hour is a medical assistance flag so I would go straight away

MrsJane · 31/12/2018 11:12

If this is not the norm for you, definitely get checked out. Let us know how you get on OP.

WrongKindOfFace · 31/12/2018 11:15

Yes, it’s is unusual for you and not showing any signs of slowing seek medical advice.

Also worth keeping an eye on your iron levels if it continues.

DeadButDelicious · 31/12/2018 11:20

Get it checked out. It's unusual for you and as PP's have said soaking through a pad/tampon in an hour is a cause for concern. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

abbsisspartacus · 31/12/2018 19:58

I hope she is ok..

Harryo · 31/12/2018 20:03

Ring 111 immediately and expect a trip to a&e tonight.

Veterinari · 31/12/2018 20:08

It’s a possible sign of sepsis. Out of hours. Now

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 31/12/2018 20:13

Has it been going at that rate for long? I'd go to walk in if you have one, if not call 111 and see if they think you should go to A&E. If you feel at all unwell go straight to hospital don't wait around for call back. They'd rather see you and it be ok than not and you end up as an emergency.

Jackshouse · 31/12/2018 20:15

Needallthesleep I hope you have got some help and are feeling better.

hairymuffet · 31/12/2018 21:15

F

IggyAce · 31/12/2018 21:22

Definitely need to get checked out, I hope you have and that everything is ok.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 31/12/2018 21:25

Are you ok, OP?

EducatingSweary · 31/12/2018 21:25

get yourself checked out

Sexnotgender · 31/12/2018 21:29

Definitely go and see someone if you can. Better safe than sorry!!
