Lovely parting gift from 2018 - marionette lines! Where the fuck have these come from?

And how do I get them to fuck off?

DP took my photo for a passport renewal yesterday - Jesus H Christ. When I’m not smiling I look like a ventriloquist’s dummy!

So that’s nice. Anyone successfully got rid of these? I’m not keen on fillers, but I haven’t been averse to a bit of Botox in the past...

I’m only 44! I’m not ready for this!

Just me?

I would say excercise is prob all you can do. Oooh aaaah eeeh etc. Can’t really fight gravity with anti wrinkle cream.

AlpacaPicnic · 31/12/2018 10:18

I'm fat. It fills out the wrinkles... not saying it will work for everyone but I got asked for ID buying a bottle of Baileys at Christmas and I'm 41.

Would it help if we all said that passport photos are supposed to look awful? The old joke is, if you look like your picture then you're not well enough to travel!

Bodicea · 31/12/2018 10:21

Also don’t smoke, wear uv protection daily and be a back sleeper.

MawkishTwaddle · 31/12/2018 10:24

Alpaca I’m not exactly thin myself...am supposed to be trying to lose weight, but now I’m worried my face will sag even more!

Good idea about the facial exercises, Bodicea. I don’t smoke, which is actually quite annoying as I enjoyed the odd fag in my younger years, and now look. I got the wrinkles anyway. Pah.

Why are you not keen on fillers? Instant fix! They only last a year to 18 months so it's not the end of the world if you don't like them. I've had them a few times over the last 10 years and love them. Nothing else will shift them.

MawkishTwaddle · 31/12/2018 10:27

Wellhello I’m worried I’ll look like a Tweenie. I can usually spot fillers and it’s not a look I like.

No offence meant - maybe I’m just spotting the bad examples?

I’m toying with Profilho though - anyone have any experience of it?

There was a massive thread on style and beauty about Profhilo a month or so back but I think the general consensus was it was a waste of money (though some posters thought it worked)

MawkishTwaddle · 31/12/2018 10:35

Bugger.

I’m finding this ‘getting older’ bollocks very very hard.

FB doesn’t help, showing me photos from five years ago, when I had collagen.

What's your current skincare regime? You could ask on the skincare thread in S&B - the one with the elephant in the title. SPF, retinoids, acids and Vitamin C are the 3 biggest anti-aging skincare things you can do. Peptides and something called niacinamide (sp?) are additional possible supports.

NIOD do a serum called NEC for the neck and lower face. No idea if it works and it's pretty expensive so I haven't tried it myself, though very tempted as I have a horrible saggy bit under my chin. Rosehip oil kept it at bay for years but doesn't do it on its own any more.

Or fillers. If I could afford it, I'd be doing BOTOX now for my forehead and fillers in a few years for marionette lines (currently I can only see these starting when my skin is dry or dehydrated).

MawkishTwaddle · 31/12/2018 10:50

I use a hot cloth cleanser, retinoids, all that.

This feels more internal, iykwim. Like the foundations have failed.

It probably doesn’t help that I’ve been mainly hydrating myself with gin all Christmas. Time to up the water intake, I think. My kidneys probably look like Rice Krispies.

I think I'm going to have to resort to fillers as feck all else works-and I've tried the lot.

MawkishTwaddle · 31/12/2018 10:53

Can fillers be un-Tweenie-like?

OP posts:
Apileofballyhoo · 31/12/2018 10:55

Have a look at Duchess Kate - she is years younger than you and I think her face is starting to sag terribly - I'm putting it down to tiredness because she surely can afford the best skincare money can buy...

So are you awfully tired after Christmas?

MawkishTwaddle · 31/12/2018 11:00

Duchess Kate smokes, I think. And she is incredibly beautiful, so can take a few ageing hits.

I don’t have that luxury Sad

I’m absolutely knackered, though. Don’t sleep well and haven’t been exercising or eating that well. I guess my chickens are coming home to roost. In my face.

Hmmm. Had a Google an image of the Tweenies! Smile I hope I don't look like that. Maybe those who look like a Tweenie have their lips filled too which makes their lower face look massive (I've never done that)
The doctor I go to often says another way of making marionette lines look better is to have fillers put into your cheeks which help 'pull up' your lower face. I've had this done too but I prefer to have a little filler directly in my lines. Just depends on your face shape I suppose.

MawkishTwaddle · 31/12/2018 11:20

I’m seriously considering fillers now. I just look so miserable, and I’m actually quite a cheerful person.

Do you it’s partly due to being very thin, I’m trying to lose weight but quite worried how it will effect my face

Wellhellothere101 · 31/12/2018 14:17

I go through the 5 stages of 'grief' when I notice a new wrinkle. It sounds as if you have passed the denial stage and you're currently in the anger stage. Give yourself a few months and you'll move through bargaining and depression then finally you'll come to accept those lines. 😂😂 I hate getting old too but I feel my wrinkles are a fight I can't win! Meantime I'll keep getting fillers and botox.

Apileofballyhoo · 31/12/2018 14:27

Oh diet could be a major factor OP!

championquartz · 31/12/2018 14:40

I think you’re noticing the ‘bad’ fillers OP. Subtlety done they’re excellent. I have marionettes and a few years ago I had a little filler put in - reluctantly - but the derm suggested it and I trust her. Omg the difference! It really ‘lifted’ my expression and as well as looking happier I think I looJed more rested. They’ve worn off mostly, still a bit there. If money was no object I’d fill again in a heartbeat

winsinbin · 31/12/2018 14:49

The doctor that does my Botox is always suggesting I have fillers for my marionette lines but they don’t bother me (and I’m scared fillers will hurt) so I haven’t taken her up on it. She is very good at doing subtle , natural looking work so I am sure they would be great if I went through with it. If you are concerned about them it would be worth having a consultation (she’s in central London, don’t know if that’s local to you OP, pm me if you want her details).

astoundedgoat · 02/01/2019 10:00

I've noticed the exact same thing! Maybe it's worse over Christmas when wine is a food group. I googled filler marionette lines for the first time yesterday.

I can't afford it right now anyway, but I feel that it is going to happen in 2019 and in the meantime I'll work on hydration.
