How hot?

Yes medicine. When my DD went to hospital for a nasty infection, I held off the medicine because I wanted the doctor to see how bad the fever was. They immediately gave paracetamol. It made me feel like a bad parent.

There's no need to let your little one suffer any longer than they have to. It's enough to tell the doctor what temperature you've been reading. If there is an issue that needs addressing with medication, the symptoms will still be there.

For my DD, her fever only reduced slightly, it was still high after paracetamol and ibuprofen administered at hospital.

Yes give meds, make them comfortable. You can describe the fever and it's pattern to the doctor, they don't need to witness themselves at the expense of your child's comfort.

Absolutely give the poor child some calpol.
You don't need to "prove" a temperature to the gp
Calpol will bring a temperature down but won't change the signs of what is causing the temperature.
So for example if it is being caused by tonsillitis the gp will still see big red tonsils with exudate on them.
