Can you remember what advice would of been given to a mother of a child who had briefly been in an incubator.
Did doctors recommend putting double the amount of baby powder in a babies bottle at every feed.?

No surely that would have made the baby ill!

No, definitely not in my experience (midwife in mid-70's). Regular small feeds, keep warm and monitor weight gain.

Sorry I meant to say I never heard this in the 70s or early 80s. I did hear it suggested that a teaspoon of baby rice should be added to formula feed if you had a very hungry baby. Surely doubling up would have been bad for baby’s kidneys.

I know the 70s were a long time ago...but I too find it hard to belive a doctor would of told a mum to do this.baby was 6 lbs so not underweight to start with.

Absolutely not! Most babies were formula fed back then and something every mother was firmly told was never to add extra powder to the bottle or you'd dehydrate your baby.

This has never, ever been recommended. It's dangerous.

I had a baby in the early eighties (London) and there was huge encouragement towards breast feeding. The mantra was 'breast is best'. I did not use a bottle, even for expressing, for either of mine.

It can be OK. My DD certainly had double-strength formula due to failure to gain weight for a few months, as recommended by medics who supplied extra large scoop and instructions. This was from around 5 months.
And only 5 years ago!

I’ve heard of it, o idea I’d routinely done
