Have you flown with Ryanair recently?

I've never flown with them before and was wondering about their new baggage policy. All I'm planning on taking is a standard size rucksack, like a laptop bag.

Their restrictions are 40cm x 20cm x 25cm now I believe.

I think the height of my bag is 45cm but it's fabric and I can squash it down as I'm only taking some clothes. Will that matter or will they insist on it being measured at full height? I don't know if they will be overly stringent and don't want to buy extra baggage if it's not needed.

Thanks! :)

I always understood the restrictions to mean that if you can fit it in one of those measuring cage things without shoving or forcing it in you'll be fine.
I've never know them to get out a tape measure

Flown with them towards end of nov. 2018. you'll be fine with that fabric type bag, it's mainly those with hard cases that they consider a problem with 'oversized' baggage.

They never seem to even look at the small carry on bag. I think, despite what the press will lead you to believe, Ryanair are quite reasonable. They give dimensions, but also say it has to fit underneath the seat in front of you. Should be fine.

Ah that's good to know thank you! All the horror stories about them charging for every little thing did make me wonder. Grin

Their current policy is you can only take a bag you can fit under your sit on the plan for free. You have to pay both to use their overhead lockers and to put your luggage in the hold. You can bring your luggage to the gate and put it in the hold there if you like.

Disclaimer: i flew with them in November. Their policy might have changed againGrin

We flew with them a couple of weeks ago and had to pay extra to put bags in the overhead lockers. If you can squash yours in front of the seat in front of you, then it should be fine.

We were all paranoid they were going to weigh and measure everything, but they didn't. (We came back with Eurowings who had an even less generous weight allowance, but again, they didn't check!).

I flew with them last night. It was a packed flight and people were being asked to check their hand luggage would fit in the space. We’d paid for 2 bags in the cabin, no weight was checked- but we weren’t clearly taking the piss. Bags which were oversized or couldn’t be carried were removed at the gate and send into the hold.

It was a few months ago but we turned up with a squishy rucksack rather than a case and it was fine. I think technically bigger than the bins but could be squished which is the key thing.
