What do you generally discuss at the dinner table?

Growing up we would chat about work, a bit of ‘gossip’ and then world affairs, things we’d read, history, politics.

I thought current affairs etc were normal discussion topics, until I met dp. Every meal time with his family is wholly about recent gossip and about the individual in the family.

What is normal to you?

Work, news, lately DIY plans for the house. We've had a bitch about family members before too, normally when a huge fuck up has occurred.

Current affairs, the news, science, our day, jokes, would you rather, random stuff.

Work, everyone’s day, current events

As a kid we'd usually sit down during the 6pm news and we'd discuss the topics - Mum was Labour and Dad was conservative and 6-12 year old me sat somewhere in between. Dad would also talk about work and mum would talk about our dad - I really look back with fond memories.

I don't have any kids and we usually eat out ( we don't live together and I cannot cook to save my life). OH doesn't sit down with his family and I don't think he ever has as everyone has always treated his family house as more of a hotel which he loves but I find sad.

Food - we live in France, it tickles me to hear what culinary delights our children get in school each day - DS1 had roasted quail for his Christmas menu this year!), school day, science and upcoming plans for holidays, birthdays etc.

As a kid nothing as my father insisted on being quiet at the food table. Sad as adults we discuss anything and everything. It usually results in lots of laughter or someone leaving the table in a huff. 😂
