Anyone know if this website is real or scam?

Hello; was googling for Lego and this came up in the top few search results. Anyone heard of it before or ordered from it? I can’t decicde if it’s worth ordering something to find out if it’s a scam or not...

kidstoysmall.com

Prices seem to be in dollars and says is based in the US in its delivery terms, but the bottom of the website mentioned their location as Manchester...

Something odd

tinesltitties · 30/12/2018 22:22

It looks unprofessional. It's a .com not .co.uk. Didn't see a phone number. Email address isn't a company name.

Avoid.

Quite a lot of international companies have depo’s in various countries they trade in, so orders are posted from their rather than where the HQ is. But that’s usually big name companies... so I thought “this is dodgy” but it was high up in the google search results. So I don’t know :(

I’m going to say scam! When you click on contact us it’s via email only

WeeM · 30/12/2018 22:27

And when you click on ‘about us’ it tells you about the history of Lego...not the actual company running the website

BornInAThunderstorm · 30/12/2018 22:27

They accept paypal so you would have some security as a buyer through paypal I suppose

ChrisjenAvasarala · 30/12/2018 22:27

Thing is, I’m a retailer (independent) and my contact form is just an email. My phone number is provided when an order is placed as, in the UK, I need to provide that but I don’t provide a phone number for anyone to call randomly as my hours are not at all regular. So sometimes I’m a bit blinded by that!

Points in its favour are the padlock on the address bar, as you need to pay for the security certificate for that. But that’s literally the only good point!

It’s just one thing I was going to get as it’s been discontinued and recently sold out from where I’d normally buy Lego.

Will give it a miss! Thank you all!

The Lego group does not appear on companies house. www.lego.com/en-gb/aboutus/lego-group this shows up though. Not sure if that helps.

Don’t know about that one but I always use bricklink for discontinued Lego, you may already know of it

Vynolo · 30/12/2018 22:36

Scam thr only review I could find was on a German forum that said their card got blocked after using the site.

totallyliterally · 30/12/2018 22:41

A padlock in the browsers means nothing. You can get free SSL certificates. It simply means your data is encrypted when entering it. Not that the site is actually trustworthy

WeShouldOpenABar · 30/12/2018 22:41

Definite scam, I saw an identical website when I was searching for Christmas gifts which had more reviews they've obviously cycled through to their next iteration.

ReflectentMonatomism · 30/12/2018 22:44

You don't, because LetsEncrypt is free, and has the sketchiest of checks (if you have bought a domain name for a dollar, you can get a free certificate for it).

That's one of the things that's going to come back to haunt us in the security trade. The padlock means nothing beyond some rather technical assurances about network security which were never a serious risk in the first place. A site which takes your credit card details and posts them immediately to Mr Criminal McCriminal can get a free LetsEncrypt certificate just like anyone else. And the certificate being served by that site is one of Cloudflares, which is equally meaningless.

I have a suspicion that a lot of people think the padlock says things about the trustworthiness of the website itself or its operators. It says nothing of the sort. It just says that you are talking to an entity which has knowledge of some simple properties of the domain and that, unless the site operator colludes, some rare attacks against the network traffic are prevented. Nothing more.

Found the set they want on bricklinks! Crisis averted!

QuestionableMouse · 30/12/2018 22:54

Have you checked it on Trust pilot?

ChrisjenAvasarala · 30/12/2018 23:00

No need now. I was trying to get one specific set and had tried ebay and amazon but it wasn’t available on amazon and all incomplete sets on eBay. Have ordered it from bricklinks thanks to the poster above. Thanks everyone!

ceeveebee · 30/12/2018 23:06

Glad you got sorted. I love bricklinks, I am very sad!!

MyNameIsNotSteven · 30/12/2018 23:07

Don't. I did similar from a FB as and didn't notice until I hadn't received a proper confirmation email back after 12 hours or so. I got the money back through the bank in the end but it was a fake Chinese site.
