Which of the supermarkets are addressing single use plastics the most?

I mean they are the ones who can actually make a difference; someone needs to do some clever thinking

Milk bottles would be an easy swop......and maybe glass for juices as well

Meat seems hard to repackage without plastic - but fruit and veg is a no-brainer with punnets made out of that eggbox stuff (mind you I haven't seen a plastic egg box for ages thankfully)

I know it's a big change, but they really need to get on board with it - Tesco can't even manage plastic free teabags!

Iceland, they've commited to all their own brand stuff being plastic free in a couple of years.

Waitrose are doing their bit

It's a mixed bag (ho ho, sorry). A year ago there was a bit of parliamentary fuss about it, and in January all the supermarkets came out with some PR stuff about it - www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-42652937 gives a good rundown. Plenty of good intentions, and some apparent plans.

But it all seemed to go pretty quiet after. I know Tesco promised to ditch non-recyclable plastics by the end of 2018, but I've not seen any evidence.

This is the latest general roundup I can find - shows they're all slowly getting better, and there's only 10% between them. Decent I suppose. www.which.co.uk/reviews/recycling/article/what-are-supermarkets-doing-about-plastic?

What’s so disappointing is that they can’t even get rid of unrecyclable black plastic in a hurry. It must have been obvious pretty early on that it was a problem but they carried on anyway.

KatyMac · 30/12/2018 20:56

At least 70% of everything sounds good but I don't really recognise the (at least) 70% recyclable - my bin/recycling combo is much more 50/50 I reckon

Tesco online shopping brings the veg in a paper bag but recently it's all been in plastic bags in the paper bag rather than loose. Assuming they have lots of temps in for Christmas but a bit disappointed it isn't just standard policy.
