Hairbrushes for long hair

Does anyone have any recommendations for really good hairbrushes for a hair sore 7 year old with really long hair? My current one is on its way out after a good few years. I want one that untangles the hair easily with minimum fuss. Thank you.

I've never understood the tangle teezer love. I don't think the bristles are strong enough to get through thick hair and the lack of handle makes it really cumbersome.

I'll have a look at the wet brush and Aveda brushes though, thanks for the tips.

DD got given a Tangle Teezer this Christmas. After a hairwash yesterday we tried it for the first time. It was brilliant and DD even said afterwards she'd be happy to have her hair washed more often as it didn't hurt her at all. Wish I'd known about it ages ago, would've saved years of upset! Blush

I'm hoping for the same reaction. She doesn't really complain much when I do it, I just feel awful when I know it hurts her. Thank you for all the replies.

Brush from the bottom up, if not already doing this (old tip from hairdresser Granny).

Tangle teezer only really sorts out the top layer of hair. Getting the Wetbrush was a complete game changer. DD can finally enjoy her hair. Wish i’d discovered it earlier

DD has hair that is past her shoulders, and is thick and wavy, but fine which means it basically tangles every time she moves.

We do tangle teaser + argan oil.

I also try and get her to let me give it a decent brush using sectioning clips at least once a week. Gets all the knots that appear under the surface out. Every now and again I bribe her with using the straighteners on it after brushing - basically waving them over her hair for a couple of minutes.

I’m so surprised so many like the tangle teaser as I hate the feel of it! And agree with the poster who says it doesn’t cope with clumps as it’s too weak.
For me nothing beats a Pearson brush but they are so expensive. DD just loves hers and I love to borrow it!

I hate the tangle teaser too - it seems to brush over the tangles rather than sorting them out. I use an old fashioned paddle brush, I use a tonne of cheapish conditioner when washing her hair and it brushes more easily but seriously the tangle teaser made me feel like I was carding wool!
