Anyone flown with Ryanair ? What's the latest you've got to the gate ?

Gate is owing at 8.05am and. I was planning on getting to the airport about 7am ... Would this be feasible ?

Stansted? I’d be there at 6am latest and even then, DH would be flapping.

I fly from Stansted about 3 times a year. It does depend on if you are checking in luggage or not. If you are then queues can be quite long so I’d get there for about 6am as there are a lot of flights that time of day. If carry on luggage then a bit later 6.30. As other people have said going through security can take time and it varies so much. If you’re bag gets picked for a spot check or you accidentally have something in there, that can add 10/15 minutes. Flying is stressful enough as it is, so best not to get even more stressed by getting stuck getting to the gates as well.

Just to add I never check bags in. Am always v organized with all my bottles in ziplock bags etc, but still it takes loads of time to get through bag security checks. Sheer volume of people at Stansted, it's just so busy. Also for the record, the lines at arrivals are the same. So factor a good hour minimum for that if you're landing there on the return. The amount of people that miss transport connections because of this must be immense. Especially at night !

Flying from somewhere like Liverpool or Leeds at a quiet time would be ok. I've cut it fine a few times but I wouldn't with bigger airports

BillyAndTheSillies · 30/12/2018 15:59

Stansted is horrendous for queues. Their security takes an age and it takes a good 5/10 minutes to get from security to departures thanks to their shitty idea to funnel absolutely everyone through a massive duty free.
6 would probably be the latest I'd arrive with luggage or without to be honest.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 30/12/2018 16:02

Stansted is a nightmare most of the time. I'd be pretty confident you won't make your flight if you get there at 7am; especially as Ryanair won't care and won't hold the gate open.

fakeplasticbush · 30/12/2018 16:03

Flying from Stansted ... If gate closes at 8.05am what time would YOU get to the airport?

I wouldn't be happy arriving at the terminal later than 6am. There are so many early morning flights. Security is mad. Hopefully that would mean time for a coffee and a toilet stop before the gate is announced but I wouldn't count on it.

GhostSauce · 30/12/2018 16:05

I'd get there for 6am. We've spent 90 mins in passport queue before.

Badbadbunny · 30/12/2018 16:06

For a 8am flight, I'd be aiming to get there 5-6 am to allow for delays in transport, delays in bag drop, delays in security, etc. Early morning is peak time, so it's going to be busy.

Vanillamanilla1 · 30/12/2018 16:08

Oh bugger ... Ok thanks all .. staying onsite hotel night before and wanted breakfast when the hotel restaurant opens at 6am ... Looks like I'd have to skip the already paid for breakfast then

OP posts:
Cocochicago · 30/12/2018 16:14

Well you know that if you decide against the breakfast you'll be through security in 25 seconds, and then sat paying a tenner for a latte in departures Grin.
But then if you choose breakfast, you'll miss the flight and forever regret it. Tis the way of life!

Mummyshark2018 · 30/12/2018 16:19

OP from Stansted I would want to be there no later than 6.45. I think you could manage to have a quick breakfast and still be fine. I use Stansted a lot and security lines can be variable but on the whole they move very quickly. Ryanair usually put gate number on screen 40 minutes before scheduled take off and are usually pretty quick at getting everyone in plane so I wouldn't want to risk getting to the gate any later than 20-30mins before take off.

NannyR · 30/12/2018 16:20

Is it worth asking if the hotel can have some coffees and bacon butties to take away ready for you at reception when you check out, seeing as you won't be eating a paid for breakfast.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 30/12/2018 16:28

Can you ask for an early breakfast? Often the restaurant won't be open but they will leave you a continental style plate of food out.

soulrider · 30/12/2018 16:33

I'd only consider 7am early enough if I had no luggage to check and a fast track security pass.

Stansted is absolutely awful at that time in the morning.

ifiwasabutterfly · 30/12/2018 18:10

Are you staying at the hotel right next to the terminal? As right next door, a 2 min walk?

If so I would see if you can check in at the airport the night before and get rid of your bags then. That way you may be able to squeeze in a v quick breakfast.

If it's any of the hotels using the bus service then forget it.
