Would you go to the doctor about this?

I'm 34, 1 DC. In a LTR and will want another in the next few years!
For the last year or so my periods have been all over the place - think 3 week intervals then the last 6 months it's been nearly 7 weeks before they reappear. I'm getting a bit worried as will want to think about having a child at some point soon.

Would you see someone about it? I feel like I'm wasting time with something not essential really but must admit I'm concerned.

Yes!

I wouldn't go... but then, having kids is not important to me & I have a history of irregular periods that had zero effect on my fertility.

You haven't even TTC yet. If I TTC'd for 6m & had no success, then I would go.

My periods were always like that so I wouldn't think anything was amiss. You can buy something that checks when you are ovulating, in Boots or Lloyds. Having something like that might reassure you.

No. I don't remember the last time I went. I'd just wait until I'd been TTC for 6 months, as you don't actually know there's anything wrong. My mum had very irregular periods and had 5 kids, 7 pregnancies, all very easily (and often a little accidentally!).

I would go because it's not normal for you and could be a sign that there's something wrong. Always best to get these things checked out just in case.

veeboo · 30/12/2018 08:27

Yes you should go. Irregular periods aren't just a sign of potential difficulty for trying to conceive, they can signal other issues such as pcos, thyroid, diabetes etc. You are probably healthy but go and put your mind at rest and get some advice.

My periods have always been 3 week intervals (for 20 years). That's quite normal for me. If it's not normal for you then yes you should go to the gp.
