To ask if you could go back in time is there anything that you would do differently?

And if so how come?

I am currently trying to get a balance between having no life and trying to save for a house (I am late 20s) and trying to travel whilst I have little to no commitments (I am in a long term relationship).... it just made me wonder whether anyone can look back at their lives and say they would do anything differently?

Myself- a bit sad really but I regret getting so drunk when I was younger and putting myself in vulnerable situations, I rarely drink now other than the odd glass of wine of an evening!

I wouldn't marry the wanker that I did and waste half my life on him and I probably wouldn't have kids.

blamethesantahat · 29/12/2018 23:07

Not get in debt, save money and have bought a house.

KateGrey · 29/12/2018 23:09

I’d have dumped my first boyfriend before university, I probably wouldn’t have married the man I have and I wouldn’t have had three kids. I adore them but two have special needs and it is very very hard. I’d also travel and put myself out there more. Now I can’t work because someone needs to be around for the kids.

Cakeandbake229 · 29/12/2018 23:11

littlecandle sorry to hear of your past regrets, are you having a particular hard time with your kids at the moment or have you felt like this for a while?

Not have a baby at 21 and spend my years being a single parent. I wasn't happy in my 20s but maybe would of been if i stuck to a career and socialised more. Walk the other way when my current partner came along. I ignored all the warning signs because i was lonely. Learn to drive when i was young.

3boysandabump · 29/12/2018 23:12

I wouldn't have been an arse at school and get myself expelled.
I joined the school with expected grades of 10 A*
Ballard it up royally

GhostSauce · 29/12/2018 23:13

Most things between 19-25.

Leatherandsilk · 29/12/2018 23:14

I would still have married wanker DH or I would not have the kids, I would not have let him bleed me dry financially though.

I would not have gone to the house of the man who raped me.

That’s it really, everything else is a learning curve good and bad.

Cakeandbake229 · 29/12/2018 23:19

Imtakingtheessence are you still with that partner? If you are unhappy do you have an exit plan? Sending you virtual strength and happiness!

I'd go back and be a bit less shouty and generally kinder/less strict with my DC. I'd also give less of a shit about what other people thought.

IdblowJonSnow · 29/12/2018 23:25

I quite like my current point as I love my kids and dh dearly - but I've made some very bad decisions along the way and would have been more work focused post uni and not just drifted through my work life.

PurpleWithRed · 29/12/2018 23:26

Hahahahaha about a billion crucial things - not have married XDH, not have had children with him (although by some magical powers I would have had my children anyway), have had ds properly assessed for asd, homeschooled him, retrained as a nurse when XDH and I split up, spotted mum was struggling alone about 5 years earlier, not shagged whoever it was that gave me that sti at uni... but I didn’t, and I’ve made lots of good choices too.

msnowtybach · 29/12/2018 23:28

Just make sure that we are very rich.

Not for flashy bling or showing off - just for freedom and security.

PatPhoenix · 29/12/2018 23:28

I said something that really hurt my first husband, I would change that in a heartbeat because it came out wrong and it achieved nothing.

I got in a snit with a friend and didn't contact her for years. We've recently reconnected and it's so lovely. I wish I'd bitten my tongue and risen above it just that one time, it would have saved a lot of wasted years.

I wish so much I had said 'I don't understand how to do this, I want to see the consultant and I'm not leaving until I do'. DH might still be alive.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 29/12/2018 23:29

I would have looked after my teeth better.

RaininSummer · 29/12/2018 23:30

Not put on weight. Had no idea how hard it would be to lose.

Silkei · 29/12/2018 23:33

Not have kids. It destroys your life and your body.

Be more sensible, look after myself better and don’t trust people. I was far too naive and unfortunately it had lifelong negative effects because of bad things that happened.

motherofsoupdragon · 29/12/2018 23:34

I wouldn't get married or have children. I don't think I'm cut out for it but realised far too late.

Ironingboard · 29/12/2018 23:44

I wish I wasn’t so horrible to my parents in my teens, the things I said and did were dreadful.
Wish I didn’t make such bad decisions in my teens, drinking, sleeping around.
Wish I had punched a couple of people when I had the chance.

thugmansion · 29/12/2018 23:52

I wouldnt have left my ex. It screwed the kids up royally which I regret.

Oddcat · 29/12/2018 23:55

I wouldn’t have had children.

peachypetite · 29/12/2018 23:57

Quite a lot of people on here saying they wouldn't have had children?! Why exactly is that?

adultcat · 29/12/2018 23:58

Soooo many things....
Had the confidence to stand up for myself
Not got in to debt.
Not had a child
Not settled down so young
Not put weight on

Wish I could repeat my 20s knowing what i know now.

adultcat · 30/12/2018 00:00

@peachypetite
Because I'm a shit mum. Her dad is a twat and I can't protect her from his emotional abuse. I never thought it would be this hard.

Sarahandduck18 · 30/12/2018 00:02

Should have stayed on at school, gone to a different uni, left ex earlier, drank less, travelled more, not become single parent, not quit good job, bought different house, not got interest only mortgage, not stayed with dp, not ate so much when pregnant.

Oh that’s a lot!
