Good quality aromatherapy essential oils

I got a diffuser for Christmas Smile and would like to get myself some good quality essential oils so that I can start to mix a few together to make some lovely blends, rather than buying ready mixed. I know Neal's Yard and Tisserand are excellent quality, trusted brands, but are there any other less expensive ones that I can buy to get me started? How do I know which ones are good and which are just cheap and poor quality?

Lovely gift!

I have found recently that TK Maxx have had quite a few essential oils, mostly Tisserand, but also some other brands which were unfamiliar. So far they have all been pretty good.

I don’t think the quality is as important for a diffuser as for use on the skin, but you could try these guys .

The only ones I would stay away from is doTerra, not because the oils are bad necessarily, but the company is a Multi Level Marketing company who will bleed you dry.

Have fun! My personal favourite is Geranium and Orange... Grin

Thanks Scone1nSixtySeconds (love your username!). It was actually a diffuser that I bought for myself from Amazon which DH wrapped for me, but it was exactly what I wanted Grin So far, I've just got the Tisserand De-Stress blend, which I really like.

That's a really good point about the quality of oil not being so important if it's not being used on the skin. I hadn't thought of that.

I've got a few in my Amazon basket, but I don't know if they'll go together nicely or not - what do you think of this selection: eucalyptus (because of the number of colds and blocked noses we seem to be getting!), peppermint (is this too similar to eucalyptus, maybe I could manage with one or the other?), lemon and grapefruit.

I love the sound of geranium and orange. I might have to get those as well as, or maybe instead of, some of the ones that are already in my basket!

Oh yes, I came across quite a few people pushing the doTerra brand and thought it sounded like an MLM. Is Neal's Yard the same thing - there seem to be a LOT of consultants and they're really expensive.

I got a couple of box sets of essential oils, they do have a couple of oils I'm unlikely to use but I also bought a book - all from Amazon- and I've experimented with various blends. Neals Yard blends are lovely, especially the calming/de-stress one but its expensive. The oils I got were reasonably priced.

The other option is to research online, all the info is available for free! Have fun with it. For me, the best use recently has been as a decongestant as I've been full of cold all over the holidays..

Thanks Bananajam, which brand of oils did you get? There are so many, and all of them seem to have some reviewers saying that they aren't the real thing. It's so confusing!

I've been doing a lot of googling since Christmas day, so I've got much more of an idea about what's what. Pinterest has been good for ideas of scents that blend well together.

I've bought mine from calmer solutions for years. You're much better off buying a book and blending yourself. As blends can be expensive. I did an aromatherapy course at a school years ago something like this could be useful to get an understanding. I think there are a few culty / mlm sellers of essential oils out there which claim they cure everything. As you say you are I'd be super wary of them.

Oh also wilko do lavender and tee tree which I use. As long as they are 100% essential oils rather than fragrance oils they are beneficial.

I like tisserand. Holland and Barrett use to sell them but swapped for a much lower grade range.

Wow, the Calmer Solutions website looks pretty good, and they are very reasonably priced as well. Reviews on their Facebook page are great. Thanks, Aaaahfuck. Do you know what their p&p charges are, I can't find any info on their website. I had a quick look at our local college for Aromatherapy classes, but that combined with massage, which I don't really want to do. I will look for a book online instead!

I wasn't particularly impressed with the Holland & Barrett selection when I popped in, but disclaimer that was with two DC after they'd been in town for a couple of hours and were really not interested in visiting a health shop! I do love the Tisserand bottles though, their packaging does look lovely Blush

Ive just been on calming solutions and filled my basket with £40 worth of oils. I used to pay £22 for 10ml of Roman chamomile.
