What to do with a new diary?

I know, use it to keep appointments in!

I got given a beautiful diary for Christmas, but, I use an online diary to sync with my work diary and don’t want to work off two diary’s for the next year. But I do want to do something with it, thinking a journal or using it as a writing challenge e.g fill each day with creative writing... or something else?

So, if you use a paper diary for anything other than appointments/birthdays etc what do you use it for?

Thanks!

You could keep a spending diary, I did for a long time. I just recorded everything spent at bed time each day. Not sure why I stopped.
Or you could use it, like you say, as a journal again at bed time, you could get a lovely new pen to use with it.
I can't imagine not having a real diary for appointments and work stuff though; I do use online calendar things, but my real diary is the one I rely on.

Oh a spending diary could well be helpful. I also like the idea of buying a nice pen to go with it, that’s the first thing to record!

Bed time journaling is a good idea as I have been struggling a bit with anxiety recently, and the feeling of not being “good enough” might be a way of tracking what I have achieved and getting the worries out of my head.

I can see myself trying lots of things to see what works (if i can get over the anxiety of writing on a blank page!).

I have always kept two diarys, a electronic one for work and appointments ( docs dentist etc ) and a personal one for birthdays anniversary . I use the personal one for notes to myself ie remember To contact so and do as it's close to DH DC death anniversary, start putting £s away for xyz . I have achieved this or want to achieve that. Have you tried bullet journaling, OP?

I started mine a couple of months ago and am loving it (although still getting my head around all the things to do with it – some people are MAJOR pros and I get bullet journal envy...)

How about a gratitude journal? Or just ‘things that made me happy today’. I try and do this but have let it slide recently.

Write at least 1 line in it at the end of every day about something that has happened that day?

I done that with a diary this year and it’s been lovely to read back

Thank you all for the suggestions, some really good ideas here. I will have to have a look at the bullet journal as not heard of that before.

One line a day could be my limit, but I do like the idea of looking back on the year as I think that would be lovely. Just need to make sure I stick to it. Sounds like I could combine a few of these ideas as there is quite a bit of space.

Does anyone use a diary to track things like habits? Wondered if I could include exercise tracking etc it might inspire me to increase it!
