Do feet get fat?

TodoDoingDone · 29/12/2018 07:52

I think my feet have gained weight. Shock
Some of my shoes don't fit any more.
My feet seem wider. I've gained about 5 pounds recently, I thought it had gone to my tummy, but some must have gone all the way to my feet, depositing done on my bumWink

I'm also peri-menopausal, so could it be that?

Has this happened to anyone else?
Should I get new shoes? Or will they go back to normal when I lose weight?

They can get fatter and also apparently wider as we get older.

I've lost weight and my feet went down a size! Could it be water retention?

Yes, I've put on about 2.5 stone and I am now a comfortable size 6 rather than the 5.5 I used to be.

GlitterPixie · 29/12/2018 17:35

Yes I’ve gone up two full sizes in a few years after putting on (a lot of) weight

starzig · 29/12/2018 17:38

Yes but no don't think 5lb would make a difference. Maybe you are retaining water or your feet are swollen. Have you been drinking alcohol? Drinking swells my feet and fingers.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/12/2018 17:38

The ligaments stretch (like old knicker elastic Grin ) so your feet pronate , lengthen and splay.
Add osteoarthritic changes and fluid retention swelling ........

But people do lose weight from the feet which isn't the ideal place to lose from, they are complex bony structures and when you lose the padding , you feel the bumps on the pavement .

Thatsalovelycuppatea · 29/12/2018 17:39

No. I've eaten a load of crap over Christmas too. I think having chronic illness affects my weight and probably stress from it all keeps me thin. I've noticed because I'm thin and petite I get treated quite badly by people. And I don't mean that in any big headed way it's just something that keeps happening. Especially some women. It's a shame as I think that women should be for each other not shaming each other.

Could your arch have fallen? My friend arch heightened after wearing roller skates a lot and she is two sizes smaller.

3out · 29/12/2018 17:40

Yes! I lost weight, just a couple of pounds, and although none of my clothes were any looser, my shoes were!

Just my luck to lose weight from the one part of the body no one really notices 😂

OneForTheRoadThen · 29/12/2018 17:43

I think so! My grew with pregnancy and haven't returned to their previous size, my pre children shoes are too tight now.

sheldonstwin · 29/12/2018 17:46

I gained half a shoe size when the menopause hit and I now have cankles too. I used to have nice slim ankles :(

EvaHarknessRose · 29/12/2018 17:48

Grew with pregnancy here

maddiemookins16mum · 29/12/2018 17:54

Yep. I was a size 4/4.5 right through my teens, twenties, thirties. Hit 40, have piled on several stone over the last 15 years. I now can only fit a 5 or sometimes 5.5.

Bumblebee39 · 29/12/2018 18:20

Yes
Mine appear to get pregnant too

JellySlice · 29/12/2018 19:27

On the other hand, when I lost 5stone my feet did not change size. They have been the same size for 30y, regardless of my weight.

But your feet may spread with age, especially if you've had babies.

permanentlyfrazzled1 · 29/12/2018 19:52

I started off as a good size 8, 4 kids later I'm now a size 9.5/10: getting nice, inexpensive ladies' shoes is a nightmare. I often wear men's!

SauvignonBlanche · 29/12/2018 19:54

Mine do!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/12/2018 19:57

Mine have spread from pregnancy and I've now lost a bit of weight and they are noticeably bonier.
