HELP!! DD has damaged my coffee table!

DD (aged 2) has an obsession with water at the moment. She has an Annabel doll which drinks water from it's bottle and anytime I let her have water in it, I'll find it poured out somewhere or transferred into another tub.

Today I realised the water had been poured over my coffee table. No idea how long it was sat on there for. I dried it all up but some of the water must have somehow been absorbed into the wood and basically it has risen up a bit.

Here's a pic, although it's not very clear. You can see a dark line running round where the water was sat. Some of the wood has risen up almost in horizontal lines, if that makes sense. Is there any way to repair this?

Please help!

Thanks

I believe a low iron over kitchen paper should help. Also, get used to covering everything that is important to you- life is too short to be constantly worrying about furniture when you have little ones.

Okay... I'll try the iron idea! Definitely won't cause more damage will it?

Make a thick paste out of cooking oil and salt. Not too thick just kind of gloopy. Consistency of calpol or a bit thicker. Paste it on and leave it half hour. Wipe it off and dry it properly. If it hasn't gone back to how it was, repeat. When it looks relatively normal, buff with furniture polish to restore the finish a bit. The stuff with wax in is what I use.

Thank you... I'll try that now 🙏🏼

Failing that, consider your home insurance policy if you have accidental damage cover.

My husband is good with wood. He said you have to let it dry. If it doesn't dry back itself, then he would sand it. I think I would let it dry then try the iron method. He said that might leave a dull patch but nothing to lose if you might have to sand it anyway.

Would it be worth using a hairdryer? It feels dry but I suppose it's probably damp somewhere underneath.

Tried the paste a few times, unfortunately didn't work. The swelling doesn't appear to have gone down overnight either 😩 all our living room furniture matches and it took us a long time saving to buy it 😢 really gutted!
