I've decided I want to go for my 30th in a few years. Be a nice trip to take I hope and something I've dreamed of doing.

Any tips?

Well, I'd avoid January and February in most places. Hotter than Hell, honestly. I am just south of Sydney and we are on our third day of 38 degrees today. It does not dip below 30 degrees for the next 10 days of the forecast. When you combine that heat with the higher UV in this part of the world, you have a recipe for misery.

Autumn (March-May) and Spring (September-November) are the best times to visit Australia.

It depends how long your trip is going to be - keep in mind that Australia is the size of the mainland United States, and that there is very little public transportation connecting areas outside of the cities, so you will be driving or flying. I would choose a side of the country and stick with that - do you want to see the main tourist spots/bigger cities? If so, then the East Coast, from the Whitsundays (Great Barrier Reef) down to Tasmania would be your best bet. If you want to see Australia's iconic landscape and emerge yourself in its cultural history, dating back 40,000+ years, stick with the West Coast/Western states, obviously including Uluru, if possible.

I'd go in the spring. So October. Avoid January as it's the summer holidays. Don't try to cram too much in. Think of it as a continent than a country as the distances are huge.

What kind of things do you like and how much time will you have?

If you want to go to the north July and August are the best times.
Assuming you have 2-3 weeks I would:
Fly to Brisbane
Go straight to Noosa for a couple of days to get over jet lag go to the beach, Australia zoo, emundi markets
Go to lady Elliot island to visit the reef- you can snorkel straight off the beach unlike most places where the barrier reef is a 2 hour boat ride.

Head to sydney for a couple of days to see the sights
Fly to ularu to see the rock, some aboriginal culture, kings canyon
Fly to Melbourne to see the sights

That itininary would work well even in summer. But I would go in October November as you will avoid school holidays and major sporting events and weather will be great but not super hot apart from at ularu

Happy planning

Oooo great tips. Thanks. I've got 2years to plan so work permitting it'll be 2-3weeks.

We will potentially be travelling with a 10and 6yr old too so lots to think about

It very much depends how long you have - it's a big place. Ideally 2-3 weeks minimum I would say.

In that time, you could fly to Sydney, fly/drive up the coast to the Great Barrier Reef.

Go to Melbourne and drive the great ocean road. And then go to penguin island (can't remember real name 🤔)

Visit the centre at some point - takes about 3/4 days.

I've done those and they're all amazing! Lots of other bits to do to!

Time of year depends on where you're going and how hot you like it. It's currently 40 degrees near Sydney...

There will be a lot of upset men (and women) in August and September when their cricket team gets thrashed and loses the Ashes, even if the sandpaper cheats are in the team by then. So probably better to go at another time.
