Classic comedy for 11 year old ?

We are mulling over what to watch. Older dd has just turned 14, smaller is 11, not 12 for another six months, and a very innocent 11. She loved detectorists ( we deliberately didnt watch the episode with the Mayor..) . I think older dd would love Blackadder but DH and I are re watching it and the episodes we’ve seen are a bit too adult for smallest dd.
I can’t think straight, as I have a horrible cold, any ideas ?

The Good Life, or Fawlty Towers

BigStripeyBastard · 28/12/2018 19:06

Red Dwarf.

SirVixofVixHall · 28/12/2018 19:07

Dh suggested Fawlty Towers too. Older dd wants Outnumbered, they watched some of that in a friends, smaller dd has just said “ that is totally unsuitable Mummy, it is all about drugs and having sex in the daytime” !!!

Only fools and horses.

DD loved Fawlty Towers and the upper hand, as well as some older Birds of a Feather.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 28/12/2018 19:09

Dad's Army?

HappyPunky · 28/12/2018 19:10

Father Ted

Father Ted and Cabin Pressure (radio) are my DS11's two favourite comedies.

MrsPnut · 28/12/2018 19:12

Our 12 year old loves some of the monty python films. We also watched Father Ted.

DuploRelatedInjury · 28/12/2018 19:13

My DB and I always loved Charlie Chaplin/Laurel and Hardy for a bit of comedy.

Or The Good Life?

SirVixofVixHall · 28/12/2018 19:14

Father Ted might be good. I love Dad’s army, but dds reluctant, i need to convert them. I think they would love Blackadder but there are a suprising number of referrences to prostitutes etc.

We listen to “That Mitchell and Webb Sound “ in the car, fast forwarding any too adult, and both dds howl laughing, so that sort of humour works. Maybe the Fast Show ? How adult is that ?
I am definitely going to try the Good Life, and Fawlty Towers.
They both liked Bad Move, but we have watched all of those episodes.

I think in the older ones a lot of the sex references rely heavily on innuendo so may go above the younger ones head?

I was certainly watching blackadder at that age and there were a few things I didn't get until older.

I think red dwarf is possibly smuttier? But again, watched from young - in fact I think the VHS cassettes were all pg bar one which had a scary bit in it.

AgathaRaisinsCat · 28/12/2018 19:23

Vicar of Dibley? Father Ted?

Rockbird · 28/12/2018 19:24

Goodness, I initiated DD1, now about to turn 11, into all of these when she was not much more than a toddler. All that remains to show her is steptoe and the ruder bits of the Life of Brian!

Beamur · 28/12/2018 19:25

My DD loves Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Father Ted, the IT crowd, Monty Python, the Mighty Boosh (audio ok for younger listeners, TV rather more near the knuckle) but she has quite mature tastes (not shocked by swearing but cringes at sex innuendo)

missmouse101 · 28/12/2018 19:27

Mr Bean always good!

Gossipgirl2 · 28/12/2018 19:33

Vicar of Dibley, outnumbered or my family

Leeds2 · 28/12/2018 20:08

I used to love Citizen Smith and Porridge at 11. Also Dad's Army.

domesticslattern · 28/12/2018 20:16

Faulty Towers is excellent.
Surprising amount of dodgy humour in it though, including the racist Major, a bit of DV on Sybil and a man blowing up a sex doll. Those all passed me by when I watched as a child, but it was fun explaining to my kids. Shock

PuppyMonkey · 28/12/2018 20:18

I watched the Christmas episode of Father Ted with an 11 yo and a 12 yo the other day and they both GrinGrin

SirVixofVixHall · 28/12/2018 20:20

I’d forgotten Citizen Smith.
I never liked Red Dwarf for some reason, but lots worth trying here. She notices everything and will ask what things mean, so I do have to be careful as to age appropriateness. I am not too worried about swearing, more things that are too lewd for 11.

Father Ted or The IT Crowd.

SirVixofVixHall · 28/12/2018 20:21

A sex doll in Fawlty Towers ? ! I would want to avoid that!

Blackadder has episodes that seem fine and then suddenly have something really adult, so we will have to watch them through first.
