Anyone else AGHAST at the amount of rubbish on our streets?

I live in Scotland. It's meant to be a beautiful Country, right? Wrong. Any car journey I take, I am aghast at the number of plastic bottles/cans/coffee cups/crisp packets, etc, that have been thrown from cars, and cover the embankments.

Took a journey to Livingston the other day. The place was covered in rubbish. And I mean COVERED. There was plastic crap all over the streets, and more shocking is that nobody seemed to even notice. Pic attached.

WTF is going on? Why do people think it's acceptable to just throw their rubbish on the streets? If there is no bin, take it home, surely?

I travel a lot, and rarely see this in other Countries.

Whenever I travel on motorways (not that often) and pull off at slip roads the amount of rubbish at the roadside is disgusting. It's not that hard to dispose of at home/services/lorry depot etc.
One of our neighbours was sick of parents from the primary school at the end of our road throwing the rubbish on our road (there is a bin right by the school) so she emailed the headteacher and followed up with some photos. Result less rubbish.

This country is full of scruffs.

I regularly see rubbish from McDonalds or KFC that has been dumped approximately 1 meter from a bin.

It's disgusting, I would never dream of dropping rubbish and just leaving it there. This is something that makes me really angry.

so true, i went into the centre of the city I live in today and it was foul - dog mess, litter everywhere, glass, just disgusting.

and if you dare ask someone to pick it up if you see them drop it you just get a mouthful of abuse or worse

Every time I walk my dog I feel bad about the rubbish people leave.
I don't know how to fix the issue Sad

If more people collected rubbish it would make it less socially acceptable to drop rubbish. I have taken a couple of bin bags out and collected rubbish and it’s amazing how people react to seeing someone doing something positive about the problem.

I live in central London on largely residential street where we have daily rubbish weekly recycling and twice daily street sweeping (!) We still have just organised a rota (yes really) of some of us doing a rubbish sweep/collection each day and/ or responsible for calling the council. We have all sorts of food rubbish (despite no close fast food) spice bottles, needles, some random fly tipping etc. It has become really depressing and actually pretty treacherous for eg elderly, wheelchair users or all of us at risk of slipping etc. Sick of it.

Feel sorry for me, I live in Livingston! Grin

Yep, it’s dreadful here. I once even saw a bin lorry driver chuck an empty soda bottle onto the road while he was driving. Angry

Where I am we have 7 street sweepers and 2 mechanical sweepers in our town and they go out 7 days a week. I've not really noticed a litter problem.
