Did you choose your clothes as a child?

I am in my early 40s and only recently realised that I had no clothes in my bedroom nor did I ever choose my clothes until I moved home aged 12 and got my first wardrobe and chest of drawers. I don't remember a big thing being made of it either. My day and night clothes must have been chosen and handed to me, I can't remember how I got them.

I do recall a memory aged about eight of a neighbours child showing me her wardrobe and not being interested. My memory of clothes has been blocked out - weird.

Was this a 70/80s thing?

I was never allowed to choose my clothes. Not until I was around 11.

Think it was partly due to having lots of siblings- the thought of all that washing Shock We did a lot more re-wearing (and more handmedowns). That wasn't unusual then though (80s).

I was allowed to chose my clothes from about 3! Obviously only to a certain extent, but pretty much unless what I wanted was entirely unsuitable, e.g. shorts in the snow. I don't actually remember a time when my mum chose what to wear for me

There are some hideous photos of me Grin
