Do you feel crap after flu jab or is this actual flu?

I work in the nhs and the ward i was on had 5 cases of confirmed flu who i had direct contact with. I hadnt had my flu jab so got it on way home after my shift.

2 days later i've got a high temp and feel shocking. Is this actual flu or just a side effect?

Thanks

Can we stop this ‘if it’s the flu you won’t be able to get out of bed’ shit? It’s not how it works.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 27/12/2018 11:01

I had no side effects from the jab.

You’re fighting a losing battle there Dixie.

Lots of people don’t get symptoms from the jab Chardonnay. But a fair number do, and a fever, shivering, joint pain and basically all the trappings of low grade flu are to be expected in 1%-10% of people vaccinated. The worst fever I’ve ever had was from a flu jab (more because I’ve rarely had any serious diseases in my life than because flu jab side effects are particularly serious, but still).

I know, I always try to get in done on a weekend, because of that and I was worried this year, because most people I know who had it did get side effects.

Now I'm worried it didn't take. Grin

Im now unsure whether its safe for me to go to work, when im dosed up i dont feel too bad. If its flu i definately dont want to go but it may also just be a cold. Hmm

I worried about that last year Chardonnay. But I was the virtually the only person at work that didn’t get the flu when it went round in Jan so I reckon it’ll be ok.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2018 13:32

If it came on suddenly Loobie, with few actual cold symptoms, then given you've been in contact with flu, I'd treat it like flu. Sorry.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2018 13:33

I think the way to think about it, if it's making you as a healthy person feel really crap, then, think of the impact it will have on those who are already unwell.

JellycatElfie · 27/12/2018 13:36

Do you have an infection control team? If you have confirmed flu cases the hospital should be ensuring staff have personal protective equipment!

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 27/12/2018 14:55

Equally Jelly nobody sgould go in without a mask just because there appear to be none on ward - you need to get some!

JellycatElfie · 28/12/2018 09:23

That’s true but if the patient needed care or something urgently and there were no staff on ward etc I’m not surprised it’s happened.

Loobieloo27 · 28/12/2018 10:43

Yes we was waiting for them to arrive. Patient who is high risk falls was walking out of bay, was pretty unavoidable really.

However today i feel not too bad but my children came down with the sick bug so no time for me to be poorly now Hmm

Really hope the ward have now sourced appropriate masks. It’s pretty shocking they didn’t have any.

Glad you’re feeling better, hope your kids are better soon too.
