Unexpected windfall

What would you do if you received an inheritance out of the blue of £3000?

My dear Gran died 11 years ago, my Aunty has been hanging on to the money in case her sister, other Aunty who has disabilities, needed it, but now she is of an age that it won't be needed, so my aunts & dad decided that the grandchildren where all at (very different) places in their lives and that the money wouldn't be frittered away but be very useful.

So I am looking for ideas of what to do with the £.

I don't really have any debts, I do need to finish paying my Solicitor for my divorce but there is an agreement in place.

I would really like to use it for something meaningful - I was close to my gran so would love to honour her memory somehow.

Any ideas?

Well, personally, I'd go on holiday, but it depends on all your other circumstances.
Depends on your earnings / outgoings, and what you need in life (first) and if your needs are already met, then your wants?

Do you own a house?
Do you need new carpet or new furniture or a room makeover. Or do you need a new car?
Or do you want to do some sort of course or training?

I personally would pay off my credit card but use some (£200) to buy a piece of jewellery as a keepsake

Buy something beautiful that will last forever (eg art/jewellery) or something that you would absolutely love that is relatively impractical but that would give you a lot of joy?

Or go on holiday. Unless there’s something pressing that you need eg car/new furniture etc.

I’d put it toward some sort of home improvement-windows/driveway etc or put it towards the mortgage

Or you could use it to fund some sort of lesson for a year (learn a language, or a sport, or a musical instrument, perhaps? Or a craft?)

I received similar when my Nan died. I was 17 at the time and used if for driving lessons/tests and then my first car - which was a £500 old banger that I loved dearly. and then the ridiculous insurance

Now I randomly think of my Nan when driving around.

Is there anything you can’t do that you would like to do? A skill or a hobby as such?

It’s always brings a smile to my face when she pops in my mind whilst driving.

Great ideas, thank you!
I do own my own home - have a temporary mortgage in my name to help my mum move house but she pays it monthly.
A holiday with DD would be good - I might be able to take her to Disneyland possibly, but my Gran would have approved of jewellery so that's a fab idea too!
Thank you!

FWIW the other grandchildren are a lot younger than me, all mid 20's and are using it to fund a Masters, their next year of studying their qualification or to put towards their savings for a house deposit - I'm at a later stage, have a job, house, child etc so slightly less reliant - never expected anything so it's crazy!

I bought a dining table and chairs and a decent bed settee with a similar sized inheritance from my gran. I love having friends round for dinner, and she encouraged a love of cooking in me, so I know she would approve of my purchase - and she would have been pleased I could finally afford a new sofa, especially one that meant we could have family to stay.

Do you have any hobbies or things you did together with your gran? Could you buy a bit of equipment or household item that would remind you of her?

Every time I take the wipe clean cloth and protector off the table ready for a dinner party I smile and remember Nana, as I know she would have been delighted for me to have a matching table and chairs to use to share food with friends.

That's so lovely!
I used to go round for tea every week, I already have her meat plate and some other bits,
Maybe towards a bigger house/extension so can host everyone for Boxing Day like she used to.
