....you wouldn’t have to write a letter from Father Christmas in the special magic writing and wait til they are asleep to put out the presents under the tree and fill the stockings? Well, wouldn’t you?????

OP posts:

Father Christmas still fills a stocking for the 96-yr-old member of our family Grin

LarkDescending · 25/12/2018 06:35

...but not for Donald Trump, apparently

StealthPolarBear · 25/12/2018 06:38

Maybe he's not been good this year

19 & 16. They have put out mince pie & brandy for the Father Christmas. Their sacks are outside their doors as dh & I were fed waiting for them to go to sleep. And we’ve tracked F.C. on norad!

CherieBabySpliffUp · 25/12/2018 06:52

Trump is a cockwomble! Xmas Sad

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 25/12/2018 07:05

Mine are 22, 20 and 18.

They are now all currently asleep in their new christmas pjs and we still do stockings etc
Christmas still follows the exact same rituals that we did when they were 7,5 and 3. Wouldn't have it any other way and neither would they. I love it Xmas Grin

Magmatic80 · 25/12/2018 07:11

I’m 38, and own my own home. Mum came for lunch on Sunday and had a quiet word with DP. I’m currently eating chocolate coins in bed surrounded by Father Christmas’ special stocking paper. Mum will text me shortly to enquire if ‘he’s been’. Yabu, it’s nice to play the game.

GnomeDePlume · 25/12/2018 07:20

Left Christmas socks outside their doors at 6.30 this morning. Still the same socks they have had for the last umpteen years. Contents have changed over the years. This year Santa delivered the usual nuts, apple (chocolate) orange, chocolate money plus reindeer poo bath bombs for the girls, a penny whistle for DS and miniatures all round.

crimsonlake · 25/12/2018 07:22

2 grown up children, 22 years and 21 years and we still follow all the Christmas traditions from when they were little. Sacks by the bed and leave a carrot and mince pie out. Turkey is in the oven, I am having a quiet cuppa and they want me to wake them at 8 am when they will come to my bed and open their presents.

choli · 25/12/2018 07:26

At that age I hope that at the very least they are also doing a stocking for you!

clippityclop · 25/12/2018 07:29

Everyone gets a stocking here. Feeling awkward Santa used same paper as we did for some other presents but co-incidence happen, right? Happy Christmas everyone.x

whiteroseredrose · 25/12/2018 07:30

DD (15) has just bounced in excitedly because Father Christmas has been and left her sack. She's off to wake DS (19)!

Willow2017 · 25/12/2018 07:33

13 an 16 yr olds up at 6 too open thier stockings with me. No santa letter or plate left out but stockings are essential still as is the trail of choc coins from beds to tree😁😁
You are never too old for xmas😀

Juells · 25/12/2018 07:45

Gah! I'm staying with an adult daughter, and was woken by a strange crashing noise in the room at about 6.30. The dogs didn't react, and I finally got up at 7, switched on the light, and a stocking had been hurled through the door Grin I haven't investigated the contents yet - came downstairs and some of the other dogs in the house had had a party with the presents in the sittingroom Angry Now waiting to see if there are repercussions from the empty chocolate wrappers that were strewn across the floor.

PostNotInHaste · 25/12/2018 07:48

Just delivered the DC’s and DH’s. Slight technical hitch as could only find one stocking but found some lChristmas bags so they have done the job. DD (19) is sleeping in the living room so F.C. has left them outside doors. Couldn’t find my my bedroom door for a moment as it moved last week and it was a bit dark plus I had the dog to navigate but job done.

Last night DS (15) was trying to tell me that it’s hard for reindeer to eat carrots, something to do with their teeth. Clearly he doesn’t know what he’s talking about and I hope they have carried out instructions of putting out the mince pie and carrot as per instructions.

chipsnmayo · 25/12/2018 07:48

I still give DD (19) a stocking, but at least it is opened at a reasonable hour of the day, not half 6!

Although we gave up on the mince pie, letter to FC years ago.

systemwwr · 25/12/2018 07:57

I think I genuinely still thought there was a slight possibility that FC existed until I became a parent myself (early 20s) and took on sole responsibility. Darn parenthood crushing the possibilities!

Bouledeneige · 25/12/2018 08:01

Got to confess I filled the stockings and put them in the sitting room before they had both gone to bed (though each was in their bedroom). It was 12.30 and I wanted to go to bed and couldn't be arsed with getting up in the middle of the night. They are 16 and 18 and I dont think it would feel like Christmas if we didn't have stocking opening....

It just happens a bit later in the morning now - and no drink and carrot is left any more.

I know for a fact that DS16 has yet to do any present wrapping. Lazy arse.

WeirdCatLady · 25/12/2018 08:02

A tip for you OP, don’t wait until they go to sleep, just make sure you get up before them and do it then Xmas Grin I’ve just this minute hung dd(17) stocking on her bedroom door handle.

Merry Christmas 🎅🏻

TheHauntedFishtank · 25/12/2018 08:10

clippityclop I told DH off for using the ‘Santa paper’ to wrap a non-Santa present but apparently Santa also shops in Tesco so it’s ok Xmas Grin This thread has made me choke up a bit (possibly because DS has been up since 5am), Merry Christmas everybody Xmas Smile

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 25/12/2018 08:12

Dh looked at me all perplexed the other day when I informed him FC Christmas paper was out of bounds except to FC. Xmas Wink

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 25/12/2018 08:14

my 21 year old was last to bed last night, I told him not to be late as he'd get a lump of coal if Santa caught him

He said he was going to stay up and have words as the elves have been very lax and there has been no sweeties in his Advent Calendar, he felt a formal complaint right to the Big Man might be best.

DrWhy · 25/12/2018 08:20

I’m 38, in my own home with two DC with no parents or PIL so for the first time I’m the adult-ist adult in the house. So my mum fave DP a list for my stocking and formally handed over responsibility! He thinks it’s ridiculous but has done it anyway (although I’m not sure he’s used the correct Santa paper!) and I’m now waiting for him and DS to wake up whilst I feed the baby.

2gorgeousboys · 25/12/2018 08:21

I'm having a cup of tea in bed whilst waiting for teen boys to wake up. They left Santa a mince pie and sherry and reindeer a carrot last night and hung their stockings.

Santa came last night and filled their stockings and left gifts. He also sent his Head Elf with Christmas pyjamas and Polar Express DVD earlier in the evening.

I love carrying on these traditions.

Justsaynonow · 25/12/2018 08:21

My soon to be 25yo just wrote the Santa letter -it's her first Christmas home in a couple of years and she insisted. Luckily no one mentioned doing the reindeer food. She's bunked up sharing one room with her 23 and 20 yo siblings as a continuing Christmas eve tradition -we're 9h behind UK time so just going to bed. I'm waiting for quiet so I can get to stocking duty. They & DH will get stockings as long as I'm around - he does mine. We all love tradition Grin
