Have been trying to find online the story cassettes we used to listen to on long journeys today (on a big nostalgia trip!) - I remember they were mainly narrated by Penelope Keith and Barbara Windsor. I remember the Snow Queen was Barbara Windsor I think. Anyone know which record company they came from? Have spent hours on YouTube without success. Thanks!

Definitely not Storyteller as there were no books or magazines to go with the cassettes. It's a mystery. Definitely remember Penelope Keith and Barbara Windsor narrating..

We had Just William and Jackanory audio cassette books. The BBC used to do the tapes.

I had Black Beauty & i loved it. It was read by a British actress but i can't remember who. I have just downloaded a new version from Audible narrated by Nathaniel Parker. It's good but it's not the same.

I also ended up with a copy of The Haunting of Toby Jugg by Dennis Wheatley!

Ahh have found them all with Jon Pertwee and Arthur Mullard narrating too. I remember listening to Arthur Mullard thinking he had a very gruff voice when I was younger and that Penelope Keith spoke so beautifully. I still think that- listening to Little Red Riding Hood right now. Am back in 1979!Smile

I had a wonderful Hans Christian Anderson tape, I used to love the into music to the stories and the serious narration. I always read my kids stories like I’m the star of my own tape!

Is this the one your thinking of? I had the LP version when I was young, loved it thanks for reminding me about it. I'm sure it's hidden in a box somewhere, will have to have a rake about to find it.

I used to get bought the ladybird classic tales like Snow White , princess and the pea etc. And they came with cassette recordings of the stories.
Loved them. ‘When you hear ‘beep’ turn the page’ They had fab background music as well .

ooh I've been looking for two tapes, one of fairy tales and one of AA Milne poems. The poems were read by John and Hayley Mills. Anyone remember them?
