Ryanair lost luggage with kid's Santa gifts. What do I tell them?

As above but my older 2 already half suspect but still really want to believe. At the airport my eldest said at least we'll still get Santa's gifts and I stupidly agreed as I thought the luggage would get to us. What do I say now when there's no chance the luggage is going to get here by tomorrow afternoon?

Ah shit, that's so annoying. I'm sorry op! Hopefully you'll get it back at some point- maybe tell them (depending on age) that Santa is delayed and you'll be delivering the presents in a few days? Meanwhile just get a few bits for an emergency stocking?

FelixTitling · 23/12/2018 21:57

Where are you? Can you run out tomorrow and buy some presents?

ItIsChristmasTime · 23/12/2018 21:58

I’m sorry. I’d do some last minute shopping tonight (if somewhere like Amazon can guarantee delivery tomorrow) or else the supermarket for chocolates etc.

Last minute shopping!

Thanks for the responses. Got replacement presents for youngest which in some ways feels most important but DSs 8&10 asked for specific yugioh cards which are not available here....I've checked. So frustrated as I'd managed to get everything on their very short lists and thought I could keep the magic alive another year. Is it better just to tell the older 2 straight?

Got them some small toys and chocs but they will be disappointed.

I don't think I'd tell the 8 year old. They might be gutted. Leave a note from Santa to say he ran out of Yugioh cards but will deliver them some night during the 12 days of Christmas. Get them some other bits to replace the things you can. The 10 year old might figure it out but I think just before Christmas would be a horrible time to find out Santa isn't real if you still think he is/are still hoping he is.

Thanks. I totally agree. Will write an IOU note and just play it cool and not say too much. Bloody Ryanair!!!!

If you think they suspect I’d tell the older ones and try my best to make them feel special in helping to keep the magic going for the youngest. Hopefully they’ll be chuffed to be part of the ones In the know, rather than disappointed. Heard both from colleagues - most were ok but one was heartbroken as he really wanted it to be true and he felt cheated. But given the missing presents, I think it’ll be the better option

Iamtheworst · 23/12/2018 22:11

Are you at home or away? If you’re away can you feign a call from a neighbour saying Santa delivered them at home?

katb1973 · 23/12/2018 22:16

That's what my husband suggested and perhaps it gives me some stalling time. We're away for a week so gives them a bit more time to find the luggage. Thanks all....just needed some support from you fantastic Mums. Have a brilliant Christmas!!!

I'd stop in a moment of panic, hand to mouth type acting "oh no, I've just realised, I forgot to send Father Christmas a letter to say we were on holiday" and explain he might leave them at home like normal, and call family member to ask them to go and check on Christmas morning and find the presents dropped off

Then I'd order replacements of the main bits from father Christmas and get a family member or friend to wrap them and leave in your house ready for your return, and then give the other presents when you get your case (but remember to quickly put those ones out of sight before opening case)

Apileofballyhoo · 24/12/2018 10:08

My DS got a letter from Santa and a cert from the Head Elf (printed off the net) to say his main present was out of stock in the work shop when it failed to turn up for Christmas. He still talks about that in a really happy way. Santa brought him a little surprise instead and he was happy out on Christmas Day.
