Mine used to love ‘secret recipe orangina’ - orange juice and fizzy water.
And anything served in a stemmed wine glass, champagne flute or with a cocktail cherry.

Grenadine syrup (it’s red and strawberry flavour) or Curacao (blue and a sort of berry flavour) mixed with lemonade is always a hit here, served in a tall glass with colourful straws and an umbrella.
Or just buy some fizzy pop (Diet Coke, lemonade, Fanta etc) and let them mix it themselves - it’s great fun!
It’s not glamorising alcohol, it just makes having a drink a bit more fun and special.

Shirley temple yes thank you , been reading the thread trying to remember .

It was grenadine and lemonade was Shirley Temple and coke and grenadine was a Roy Rogers. If memory is correct

My parents used to give us real cocktails back in the 80's, from age 10/11Shock
I don't think there was much alcohol in them though.

Lakeland sell popaballs and glitter for prosecco but the balls and glitter aren't alcoholic and could go in lemonade or fizzy orange

juneybean · 23/12/2018 21:51

I'm not drinking this year so I've been making a non alcoholic cocktail using lemonade and orange juice then on the back of a spoon pouring in Ribena winter spice. Layers on the bottom of the glass.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 23/12/2018 22:03

Mine love a Nojito Grin

You can buy ‘posh squash’ from Robinson’s that is mint and lime - with lots of crushed ice and garnishes it looks very fancy. I like one too.

I quite often have a virgin one when we go out and they have tried some (I don’t ever drink when we go out to eat as I have to drive) so they don’t associate it with alcohol or really have any idea what significance alcohol has to be honest.

Sprite also do a pop with cucumber which my boys like as a bit fancy. I think it’s revolting personally.

QuitMoaning · 23/12/2018 22:08

Not sure why you'd make copies of alcoholic drinks for children. Talk about glamourising alcohol.

Water, milk, diluted juice?

Not sure why you should give them juice. Or spoil them with milk. We just stick to water, need it to moisten up the stale bread that we use as a treat for parties (normally just stick to mouldy bread for day to day living).

youcanthaveitchyteeth · 23/12/2018 22:09

Grenadine added to fruit juices and lemonade

TooSkoolForKool · 23/12/2018 22:31

We used to love "children's wine" and feel very sophisticated drinking it lol. It wasn't until last year my mum educated us to the fact It was Indeed just black currant squash and lemonade!! Still we thought it was the best thing ever!!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 23/12/2018 22:37

You can get non alcoholic cocktails in champagne style bottles in m&s

messyhousetidymind · 23/12/2018 23:02

Schloer is our drink of choice for special occasions

Or different fruit juices mixed & topped up with sparkling water and crushed ice

Frozen berries also good decoration

messyhousetidymind · 23/12/2018 23:05

Another fun option is to serve a non alc fruit punch in a bowl

Smoothie recipes are good 'mocktails' and packed with fruits so nice and healthy.

Add umbrellas, straws and other bits of paper tat and they'll love it Grin also make sure it's fizzy and colourful

Roo2012 · 24/12/2018 07:28

My friend does magic milk; milk with a few drops of food colouring and edible glitter. I let my 9yr old loose with whatever squash we have and a dash of lemonade or fruit juice, she loves coming up with creations, some of which taste ok.

lalafafa · 24/12/2018 13:33

Thanks everyone. Lol about the fun police!
