Best way to thank my midwife

I just had DC3 and I had the most wonderful midwife EVER, throughout my pregnancy and also, by complete luck, for his birth (home birth and she just happened to be on call).

She really made such a difference to me throughout the whole experience and I was wondering what people’s thoughts are on the best way to thank her? (Particularly keen to hear from other midwives!)

Obviously I’ll be sending a card and a present but can I also give positive feedback to the surgery/the hospital/somewhere else (not sure where would be best?) Anything else?

Midwives and nurses have to revalidate with the NMC every three years, so a letter for her portfolio will be really helpful for her. If her hands are anything like mine at the mo, some nice handcare items would go down well!

Also, check with the hospital if they take part in any staff recognition awards, it's always lovely to just have a nomination.

Thanks Angel Smile What would the form of the letter be - to her or to the NMC? Will check with the hospital - I don’t even know if she’s technically a hospital staff member as she’s a community midwife... am slightly in the dark at how it’s all organised.

The hospital may well have a 'PALS' service that can advise you on who you can write to. Or you could address a letter to the Midwife Supervisor, and ask that it is shared with her. Please do write in your letter the various ways in which she was so great - as mentioned above midwives are regulated professionally and need to present evidence about their practice, so I am sure she would really appreciate it.
