Treats for Christmas Day worked

So, like 000s of others, my DP is working part of Christmas Day (2pm-11pm). He'll get to open gifts on the morning with the kids and we'll be having a big breakfast all together.
We have decided that we will not do the big Christmas Lunch until next weekend when parents visit so the kids and I will be having something different to eat on the day.
My question is what can I send in with my partner to make his day a bit better? He's an emergency services call handler so won't be able to switch off during his shift but I don't want him to be sad all day either. They don't have great facilities for reheating/cooking so will be cold packed lunch or soup for him.
I know we've had about 9months to get used to him working this Christmas Day but I honestly thought he would have his shift swapped

What a fab man your dh is. It might be Xmas day but think of it as any other day and it won’t be as miserable for you x

Is dh into sweet or savoury, what have you got in?

PoohBearsHole · 23/12/2018 11:17

Oh and Brussels sprout walkers crisps 😁

PotteringAlong · 23/12/2018 11:18

Have you got some Christmas napkins you can put in his packed lunch?

Smoked salmon sandwich?

Littleraindrop15 · 23/12/2018 11:22

You could make a Christmas roast sandwich which Google can give you a gazillion ideas of.

Sitranced · 23/12/2018 11:23

Turkey, ham and cranberry pastie

FogCutter · 23/12/2018 11:25

Make a festive packed lunch and include some drawings or messages from you and your children to let him know you are thinking about him.

Full Christmas roast sandwich with turkey stuffing etc, mini Christmas cake, chocolate log, turkey or pigs in blankets crisps and a small bottle of fake champagne (non alcoholic stuff) all wrapped up with Christmas material and a little card from you and the cards showing your love.

Turkey and cranberry sandwiches on really nice bread.

Cold pigs in blankets are just as delicious as hot!

Snacks like pretzels are lovely.

Mince pies?

claracluck78 · 23/12/2018 12:06

Thanks everyone for the ideas!

I've got some posh mince pies and some Christmas pretzels and then I have put some chocolate coins and sprouts for his stocking

The kids are actually great about it - they just want buffet style party food as they don't like roasts anyway so we will be ok at home

Throwing in the idea of a Ross Gellar type Thanksgiving moist maker sandwich which is exactly what I made for my dinner last Christmas day and is what I am really looking fo//rward to on Boxing day.

He will need access to a kettle for boiling water but the rest is cold.

Butter 2 slices of bread (this can be done at home) and bagged, add a 3rd slice unbuttered

sandwich bag or small tub with a couple of tablespoons of gravy granules

in separate sandwich bags so he is only assembling the sandwich
Turkey pieces, ham pieces, stuffing, pigs in blankets, a dessert spoon each of whatever vegetables you are having (can all be bagged together) cranberry sauce small jar

To assemble - put 3rd slice of bread on small plate, boil kettle, make gravy in a mug, pour half the gravy over the 3rd slice of bread only, flip set and repeat and set to one side,

a layer of buttered bread on a large plate, assemble some turkey, ham, stuffing, pig in blankets, vegetables on this slice, pile high, add the sliced soaked in gravy, repeat with rest of turkey, ham, stuffing, PinB, vegetables, add top layer of bread, press sandwich down as will be sitting high - enjoy

Very filling and can be made up very fast and tastes like a full dinner
