If you were famous would you read tabloids and forums about yourself?

...especially if you knew you weren’t everybody’s cup of tea.

I’m torn between “no way” but also not being able to resist.

Yes, I’m far too nosy not to.

If you were properly famous then surely you would not have the time or the inclination? Minor celebrities totally check though, like the big nosed girl who got big boobs.

ItsalmostSummer · 23/12/2018 06:51

If I were someone like Posh Spice nope. I would hate to see what people put. I think it’s often quite nasty (just using her as an example). If someone famous were genuinely rude to others I don’t think they’d read anything as they don’t care.
Answer: no, because it would probably horrible to read.

NonaGrey · 23/12/2018 06:53

If my job depended on public opinion (actor/author/musician etc) I would organise a service to collate online and print media comment each week, just like businesses do.

Like a business a celebrity has a brand to promote and protect, hard to do that if you aren’t doing market research.

If being famous was a side effect of my role rather than a key part of it (eg a job which high profile but doesn’t depend on goodwill/married to someone in the public eye) I would ignore them. It wouldn’t be hard as I don’t read tabloids.

I think I would decide not to. I think it would be easy to become too wrapped up in comments online and obsessively be keeping tabs on your name.

brizzledrizzle · 23/12/2018 07:04

Unlikely as I don't tend to care what people think of me, I think I know what they think anyway!

BigGreenOlives · 23/12/2018 07:06

I think I’d try not to look but fail and then be upset.

MrsGface · 23/12/2018 07:11

No. I know someone famous who was involved in a tabloid scandal. The bulkshit put in the papers was more upsetting to them than the actual behaviour that got them there in the first place.

LadyRochfordsFrostedGusset · 23/12/2018 07:13

I wouldn't. You'd either start believing your own hype a la The Kardashians and similar or have your mental health brought down by haters. Either way ignorance is bliss. Switching your phone off every now and then is a good thing too,

areyoubeingserviced · 23/12/2018 07:18

No
I wouldn’t read anything on social media( good or bad)
It will most probably affect ones mental health if negative things are written . I would like to enjoy my millions in peace

Ohyesiam · 23/12/2018 07:22

No, because people are so nasty.

TulipsInbloom1 · 23/12/2018 07:28

I think id look then regret.

I listened to a podcast with Dawn o Porter on the other day and she said that people often say she is smug. Thats her main criticism that she reads online. She then said "im not smug, im just content with myself and my life and people dont like that" which I think is very true.

The public want scandal, depression, insecurity, affairs etc.

Anyone reading about my life would probably fall asleep!

Heatherjayne1972 · 23/12/2018 08:12

I know someone who wrote a book has an online presence and does YouTube videos about quite a controversial subject
The lies and the rumours about her are shocking - it’s better not to read it or see it
