Boring question: Does anyone know any banks/institutions that would still replace the old £1 coin

Pretty much just that. I've a relative with a jar of the old £1 coins and hoping I can get them replaced for her.

TIA!

All the banks I've been in still do -Natwest, Barclays, Santander

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 22/12/2018 17:28

All banks will. You might have to make an appointment if it’s a massive amount.

megletthesecond · 22/12/2018 17:28

The Bank of England I think.
Not sure if high street banks still do it.

Nationwide accepted mine into my current account last week.

cloudtree · 22/12/2018 17:46

post office still take them

NotAnotherFeckingMuftiDay · 22/12/2018 17:49

NatWest took coins and old ten pound notes last week. They gave cash back and didn't pay it into my account but they did check my account details.

BackforGood · 22/12/2018 18:04

All banks will. They'll still change pre-decimal money if you have any.

Clickncollect · 22/12/2018 18:11

I took 8 into my local HSBC branch about a week ago and they changed them for me.

Iruka · 22/12/2018 18:17

Pretty sure you can still pay them into your account. But if you take it into one where you don’t have account they won’t change it for you.

Cherries101 · 22/12/2018 18:18

It depends on how old they are. Some coins and notes will only be exchanged at the Bank of england

WrongKindOfFace · 22/12/2018 18:19

Your own bank should take them. Check first though as they may not accept more than a few bags at a time. Unless it’s a children’s account.

VladmirsPoutine · 22/12/2018 18:21

Thanks all! For some reason I thought there was a deadline so if you hadn't changed them by then, the coins would basically become worthless as no-one would accept them. They aren't ancient coins Grin, just the former version of the current coin.

Tesco self service still takes them. Not sure it is supposed to but they do.

thisisjustdaft · 22/12/2018 19:00

The deadline was for spending them in shops etc. The banks will still exchange them, or pay them into your account.

KatherinaMinola · 22/12/2018 19:03

They'll still change pre-decimal money if you have any.

Will they really, Back? Grin Have you tried it?

VladmirsPoutine · 22/12/2018 20:12

@thisisjustdaft "exchange" was the word I was looking for but for whatever reason it had completely escaped me! That's what I meant! Grin

yes my mother in law had really old 10 pound notes so old they were white and the bank took them, you can't pay for them but it promises to pay the bearer £10 its a promise forever by Bank of England however it is only worth face value

like this
/www.ebay.co.uk/itm/B209bf-HARVEY-1920-WHITE-MANCHESTER-10-NOTE-62-V-66635-aVF/142967050957?hash=item21498012cd:g:pEUAAOxy~dNTHE0a
with a note that old obviously auction is better but the bank of England would give you a new £10 note in exchange

10PollyPockets · 22/12/2018 22:25

The bank of England will always accept old money so any old fivers or old pound coins keep and take to your bank and they will swap for you.
