So, how bad is it near you?

DH was in Asda by 8am thos morning, and he said it was carnage.

The local town centre has had hour long queues for the car parks the last couple of days, with warnings it's going to be worse this weekend.
Luckily, we're all done now, but is any one else stuck in the chaos?

I was in Waitrose at half 8 which was quite quiet and civilised. Town wasn't bad just after 9, and Asda after 10 was as busy as usual.

MimsyBorogroves · 22/12/2018 15:21

Morrison's have run out of mince pies.

littlepooch · 22/12/2018 15:27

I popped into Sainsbury's this morning at about 11am to buy milk. It was very busy but it's always busy on a Saturday morning, there weren't the crazy queues etc I remember from a few years back.

I've ordered everything online to come tomorrow so I'm hoping everything is there and I don't have to brave the shops on Monday 🤣

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2018 15:29

Christmas Eve will be Dante's Inferno with Xmas Day being on a Tuesday. I don't get paid now until mid January so I'm not going to any supermarkets again this year.

adaisychain · 22/12/2018 15:37

I popped to my local Tesco this morning for gin and gingerbread men...meat and veg section was carnage but the rest of the store was fine and tills fairly quiet and quick. I was expecting worse.

Sainsburys order came today and I was expecting the worst in terms of substitutions but all that was missing was a packet of biscuits...I'm done!

Floralnomad · 22/12/2018 15:44

I was in our local Tesco at 10ish today and it was fine , small queue at the scan and shop tills , everything well stocked and decent bb dates . I’m not collecting our order from Marks until Monday so will get a couple more things in there then and dsis is collecting our gf Christmas cake from Morrison’s tomorrow when she gets her stuff .

trinity0097 · 22/12/2018 15:47

I went to Waitrose this morning and it was perfectly civilised. Left about 9am. Wasn’t doing a big shop, just some bits for today.

richierichardsaunt · 22/12/2018 15:50

I went to Asda around noon.
No busier than any other Saturday,
Shelves were full.

I'm in greater London if that's any idea.

Although there was a crowd of angry shoppers surrounding one asda worker as the cluck and collect orders didn't include turkeys...

richierichardsaunt · 22/12/2018 15:51

Click obviously.

(Turkeys not chicken after all)

NoPhelange · 22/12/2018 15:54

Popped to Asda at 10.30, wasn't too bad. Busy, but mostly people were just wandering around with identical trolleys full of Christmas dinner veg. Queued for about 10 minutes. I won't be going back to any shops now though, if I've forgotten it then tough!

uncoolnn · 22/12/2018 15:55

Braved Tesco about 1.30pm. Almost disappointingly quiet Xmas Grin

Fadingmemory · 22/12/2018 16:00

Went to a mall out of the town centre at 9. M & S not busy, nor were any other shops.

FourFuxxakes · 22/12/2018 16:00

Sainsburys at 8.30 this morning was very busy, as was the shopping centre it is attached to. We left by 10.30 and people were queueing to get in the car park.

helpmedecidepleas · 22/12/2018 16:00

Just went into a M&S food store in a small retail park. No queue to get in, loads of parking spaces, the store was a bit busier than I'd imagine it would normally be but still loads of room to shop, and no queues at the tills either!

Stephisaur · 22/12/2018 16:09

DH braved ASDA at lunchtime and the only thing he couldn’t get was some hash browns for breakfast.

He did say that some aisles looked like they’d been raided and the staff were frantically trying to restock.

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 22/12/2018 16:09

We haven't left the house today.

I did pop into Sainsburys yesterday at about 11am and there were quite a few spaces in the car park. The shop was very very busy - think every till open and queues where you have to put your trolley sideways so as not to block the aisles, but no ridiculous behaviour and the cashier was lovely.

namastayinbed · 22/12/2018 16:13

Same as other Saturdays, but DH says yesterday was crazy busy.

VanGoghsDog · 22/12/2018 16:20

Went to Tesco about two, for something my sister needed without which Christmas would doubtless be RUINDED and it was fine, took me ten minutes

Lilmisskittykat · 22/12/2018 16:21

Went to the gym for 10am class, it's on a retail park so was expecting a battle as had been bad Thursday night.... loads of spaces no problems. No complaints.

Judeeeeee · 22/12/2018 16:23

T'was like a typical Saturday in my local town at lunchtime. Perhaps a bit more traffic than usual but even Waitrose was quiet when I popped in for a quick browse on my way back to the car.
Suspect there will either be a mad last minute rush tomorrow and Monday, or people are perhaps going early to avoid the crowds but finding everyone else has the same idea.

DeadCertain · 22/12/2018 16:27

It has been horrendously busy in Sainsbury's for the past few days; I work in the online department and we have also been starting work at 3am to fulfil a record breaking (for this particular store) amount of orders.

I left at 8am today and people were waiting for car parking spaces to become available. It took me half an hour to get out on Thursday at 9am but not long yesterday at 8am.

I am going to brave Morrison's this evening.

BarbedBloom · 22/12/2018 16:28

We got a taxi in to avoid queues, but town wasn’t as bad as I had expected. M&S was hell and I was glad we were only collecting our order rather than shopping. Pandora had people queueing out of the door. Everywhere else okay. Ended up picking a few last minute bits from Iceland and that was just like a normal Saturday afternoon

Millie2013 · 22/12/2018 16:38

Our local Sainsbury’s was busy but nowhere near as rammed as Asda was yesterday (trolley gridlock). Waitrose was fairly quiet

I was mostly done, so got away with the self serve tills

FannyFifer · 22/12/2018 16:55

I was at Asda & Morrison between 0930-1130, loads of spaces, quiet in shop & no queue at till in either shop.

VanGoghsDog · 22/12/2018 17:08

@DeadCertain

My order arrived Thu night, the driver was lovely. Thank you retail staff for helping make my life easier!
