NEXT VIP sale - why am I having to wait 6 weeks for delivery for stuff that was available next day yesterday?

I have a NEXT account and paid for annual next day delivery a few months ago, I mainly buy brands/ basics/ last minute presents through it as the next day delivery is more reliable than my amazon prime subscription in my very rural area.

I took advantage of my NEXT VIP slot for the first time today, all good stocked up on basic black leggings/ tshirts etc and a phase 8 jumper I had been coveting for a while that was half price.

Most of the items I chose won't be delivered until February. Okkayy... I can cope with that. But.... although I didn't buy them again two of the items I saw in the sale I had already bought for full price a few days ago as Christmas presents and had them delivered next day.

Suddenly they are a few quid off but wont be available until February.

I don't get it! Surely sale stuff is sale stuff and for getting rid of, not operating on some kind of waiting list??

Because they hold them back so the items can't be used as Christmas presents. It is annoying, I've ordered DD1 a coat that she could do with now, but I can see why they do it.

They have already sold all the items they physically have but are making predictions about the volume of returns they will receive and taking orders for returned items. Depending on how many returns they actually get and how fast you may get the items sooner or alternatively never.

Everything was sold out that I wanted, and everything I ordered was delivered within 5-6 week and sometimes ten!!!!

I used to look forward going on there but now I think it's a bit of a ball ache and am disappointed every time

CurlsLDN · 22/12/2018 07:34

Because since you bought it a few days ago, the item has gone out of stock?

It's Christmas, they will be receiving thousands of orders every day, stock levels change by the second.

I expect the warehouse stock will have sold out, and they are now anticipating the return of unused stockroom stock to come in from all their bricks and mortar stores to send out.

I've just ordered from the VIP Sale for the first time. I didn't realise things would take so long, all the stuff I ordered is between 3 and 6 weeks for delivery. At least it will be a nice surprise when they finally come as I will have forgot what I ordered.

mnahmnah · 22/12/2018 07:45

Agreed! I’ve ordered a lovely duck down jacket that I really wanted to take away with me for a week after Christmas. Probably won’t be able to. I say probably because I have found in the past that they sometimes do fine earlier, even straight away. I think they are cautious with the dates

mnahmnah · 22/12/2018 07:46

*come earlier

Newsername · 22/12/2018 10:03

I had a 9:30 slot this morning and I’m just disappointed. Really shit stuff. Kids clothes too- there’s hardly any items in each category. I’m not waiting 5-6 weeks for sale shopping! Won’t be buying into this hype again.

pastabest · 22/12/2018 10:20

Yes kids stuff was disappearing out of my basket as quickly as I could put it in. I did wonder if there would be much left for people with slots today?

I've got some 6-9 month leggings for 6.5 month old DC2 - if they take 6 weeks to turn up I might only get a few weeks wear out of them!

It never used to be like this. I’ve used the VIP for years and it’s been great. But yes you seem to have to wait for everything now. Not much good for saving their business!

CurlsLDN · 22/12/2018 11:19

Most high street retailers are holding much less stock in warehouse now, due to all the major high street closures. Stock sitting in a warehouse is financial risk until the moment it's sold. Long gone are the days of warehouses piled high and unsold stock being written off.

I'm not at all surprised if next are adopting the same strategy.
