Medroxyprogesterone - to take or not?

My GP has prescribed these for me to (hopefully) delay my period over Christmas, although she said it might not work, and I could get a heavier period next time.

I'm not sure whether to try it, I already have very heavy periods (take tranexamic and mefenamic acid - unfortunately expelled the mirena when I tried it), so the idea is to not flood everywhere I'm visiting, but I'm not sure that I want to risk the next period being even heavier.

What would you do?

Has anyone taken medroxyprogesterone instead of norethisterone, and did it work for you? My GP was reluctant to prescribe norethisterone.

I took norithestone for a holiday in the summer and was super impressed with it. It held period off without spotting and when period came it was no different than previous ones. Why did you get prescribed a different type.

Personally I wouldn't take it but rely on the tranexamic and mefanemic acid and be prepared to cancel an outing on the day. That's me, though, I hate socialising on my heavy days as I feel paranoid that I'm "coming through" as my mum would say in a stage whisper. Hmm

The gp felt that norethisterone was too risky for me.

Unfortunately I'm visiting a few 100 miles away, so paranoid about flooding on their furniture
