did you sign for it?

TipseyTorvey · 21/12/2018 12:28

Does it clink promisingly?

Justme1981 · 21/12/2018 12:29

Didnt sign for it, they left it outside my front door, i was in shower.
It's huge, labelled as gift. I think its a christmas gift (although not opened it)

Prepared to be slammed by MN for this but Id open it....I wouldnt spend my time and money taking it to a post office at this time of year and pay to return it.

RockingAroundTheChristmasTree1 · 21/12/2018 12:43

Open it 🤣

Avrannakern · 21/12/2018 12:43

Keep it. Get rid of it. If yodel will come collect it then yay, but they won't do it for free. You might need to pay return postage.

Sorry to say this but it's not your problem. You didn't even get a chance to refuse to accept... So don't worry about it. The sender can claim against yodel if they didn't get a signature.

Justme1981 · 21/12/2018 12:44

I'd happily forward it on but not paying postage!

I'd probably stick it in a cupboard for a few weeks and see if anyone contacts you about it. The onus is not on you to do anything IMO. The sender didn't check where the recipient lives, the recipient didn't tell the sender they've moved, and Yodel didn't bother to knock and get a signature, so you're not responsible.

Justme1981 · 21/12/2018 12:47

Ok yodel chat is not getting anywhere ... open it? I feel bad that its someones presents

Good point juneau

Can you get sender's phone number using their return address and name? Aussie phone book?

woolduvet · 21/12/2018 12:49

I wouldn't pay postage either.
If there's no signature from you then you have no responsibility for it.
I second putting it in a cupboard for a bit to see if anyone gets in touch
Then after that....

Justme1981 · 21/12/2018 12:49

Weird to send someone a gift but not know where they live ...

I dont have a landline, not paying to call australia even if i could find the number

Can you write to the sender and explain the situation and ask them what they want to do (obviously this means you have to store it until you get a response/deadline for response has passed).

juneau · 21/12/2018 13:02

Write to the sender? Fuck that.

Avrannakern · 21/12/2018 13:11

If the sender was in the UK, and the recipient also in the UK then I'd make a bit of effort to get in touch with one of them. But both in Australia? At Xmas when there's enough to be getting on with... No.

Nothing to do with you. If they get in touch and send you the money to post it or arrange a courier to collect it at their expense then don't stand in the way, but don't do anything. Nothing to do with you.

LadyGAgain · 21/12/2018 13:16

Decent Christmas spirit there @juneau !

Hawkmoth · 21/12/2018 13:17

Look on Facebook for the sender?

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 21/12/2018 13:17

Open it!

Villanellesproudmum · 21/12/2018 13:19

Can you track them on social media, if you know the name you might be able to narrow it down and then message them? Time consuming though.

Kikidelivers · 21/12/2018 13:23

My morals are in the gutter on most issues

But not a chance I would open or leave to fester

I’d contact previous landlord and ask them to contact tenant to update that package been sent here.

Mitzimaybe · 21/12/2018 13:24

You never accepted delivery. You have no responsibility for it and you have already gone out of your way to remedy the problem (trying to contact Yodel, which I've tried in the past and it was hopeless.)

I'd probably open it to see whether the contents were perishable. If they are then eat / drink / bin it as it's highly unlikely anyone would turn up to collect it before it goes off.

Assuming non-perishable then I'd stick it somewhere out of the way for a few weeks (if I had the room) and be prepared to hand it over if someone came to collect it (but they won't.) After a few weeks I'd keep it / give it to a charity shop / bin it, depending on what it was. Probably the charity shop as I'd probably feel too guilty keeping it.

RockingAroundTheChristmasTree1 · 21/12/2018 13:24

Write to the sender?! Don't be so ridiculous!!
Open it!! And tell us what's in it!!
The people that lived in our property before us, still send their parcels to our house FIVE years in..I open them! It's their fault for not changing their bloody address..and the fact we have had bailiffs here and the police for unpaid speeding fines and ignoring court cases for it..screw them!!
What's in it?!
