A close friends dd16 has anorexia diagnosed in the summer.
I want to be the best support for friend I can.

To those of you who have had DCs with eating disorders what would have helped you? I’m aware I can’t change the situation but what would you want from a friend?thankyou Flowers

Just be there to listen, I'd have thought. I suffered with ED's on and off for 25+ years. My parents didn't really cope well but I put that down, mostly, to ignorance. I'd say your friend will be better off if she/he can educate themselves as much as possible.
You sound like a very caring person and a lovely friend. Good luck to all of you Flowers

Keep asking your friend how she is as well as her daughter. She (and the rest of her family) will have a lot to deal with on a daily basis. Christmas with an eating disorder is hard for the whole family as well as the young person as so much about Christmas is centred around food. Remember that an eating disorder is long term condition and lots of people don’t know how to address it even with close friends. You sound like a lovely friend and I’m sure will be a huge support. My daughter has bulimia and the support of my own friends has really helped me throughout some difficult times.

Thanks both Flowers

I just feel so useless, I make sure I contact her every other day even if it’s just a text.

DD had been stable for a few months but things have deteriorated and she is to be referred back to the hospital Sad

Just wish I had a magic wand for them.

Your friend will appreciate you keeping in touch and your support. Hopefully the hospital referral will lead to treatment and help for her daughter. Unfortunately there are no quick fixes.
