Please talk to me about the coil

So, I think that the coil is probably my only option for contraception.

Can’t take the pill due to migraines, age and family DVT history.

Don’t want to have the injection or implant due to potential for weight gain (I’ve lost a lot of weight over last few years and don’t want to put it back on).

Been using condoms but we both hate them.

Family is complete so vasectomy is an option and DH is happy to but he’s got some health issues at the moment so he can’t really go through any unnecessary procedures.

BUT I’m nervous of the coil. Worried about heavy/painful periods.

Any experiences?

Yes/no?

Side effects?

Copper or Mirena?

Thanks

I have the Mirena and had about four months of apparently hormonal mood swings. Just as I was getting to the point of giving up it stopped. My heavy (I was on drugs for them) periods have stopped almost completely. Marvellous.

I had the copper coil, I have to say I wouldn't have another one. It was fairly painful getting it put in, periods weren't too much heavier, but I had spotting on and off for most of the 14 months that I had it in. Very effective contraception, for the wrong reasons!

I had a Minerva fitted, bleed constantly and although not heavily it was like having a period for about 6 weeks and then I expelled it. So I went back to the clinic for another and this time they gave me the mini pill to take for 3 months to try and minimise the bleeding and give it a chance to settle in, after a month of bursting into tears over the slightest upset or happiness I expelled it again and it seems that the coil 'is not for me'

Had a mirena coil fitted about 8yrs ago. I was evangelical about it. Literally changed my life - no debilitating periods or PMT, stopped bleeding pretty much. Had to have it removed and replaced after 5 yrs (which hurt!) but I had real problems with the 2nd one. Dr advised me to give it 6 months which I did bit felt like I put weight on, had cramping and my skin deteriorated. Had it taken out after 8 months.

On my second copper and due to have a third next year
Periods last a day longer, were heavy anyway. No side effects

I had the Jaydess coil fitted on Tuesday 18/12, I am suffering so bad. I am 25 I haven’t had a child so maybe this explains the pain. As on insertion I almost passed out and became a quivering wreck....

I’m hoping this eases off and during the day I’m okay, but late afternoon/ night time I experience great pain (extreme period pain) it literally takes my breathe away and makes me feel physically sick. I’m gutted it is before Xmas as I have to wait until new year to get it removed, it is becoming unbearable. My tummy is also swollen :-( can someone please reassure me that this is normal?
