Ds has been prescribed lactulose today by the gp, 10ml morning & night

Anything else we can do to help?

As well as? I suppose the usual plenty of fluids and a good diet, lots of clementines, as well as exercise, like running around.

Tummy massage if he'll let you. Prunes too!

whatsnewchoochoo · 20/12/2018 20:31

Our GP suggested fruit smoothies? And a lot of water

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/12/2018 21:41

Prunes can be a bit too full on.does he have hard poo or is he at point liquid poo forcing past and soiling?
E.R.I.C website has great advice for poo issues

My youngest has tummy troubles.currently on laxido as lactulose did nothing but give her tummyache, and under hospital consultant try get to bottom of why she's like it as eats 5+ a day, every day
My advice is plenty fluids, plenty veg(we add extras into pasta sauce and blitz it purely to up intake)if he likes hummus serve with carrot sticks.be mindful of wholegrains as some children find them very abrasive and cause colicky gut pain.
If it's a long term issue probiotics?we were recommended to give them a try and since taking we can see a slight improvement
If pain occurs, warm hot water bottles and warm baths work better than painkillers
Being actives very important,as is not waiting if need to actually go to the loo(her biggest problem as HATES school loos)
And finally is he worried about anything?anxiety can cause constipation as messes with gut signals.she did a course with relax kids which was excellent, they do small group work with children focusing on emotional well-being in a fun way.we bought her a cd after she still listens to

He with holds his poo at school which is what's caused the build up

Started Thursday afternoon and a fair amount has come out now, at the diarrhoea stage now

Does this sound like it's cleared and I should reduce the dose?

If he's at liquid stage now I'd says he's cleared out!

My DS has had bowel problems all his life and gets impacted. He used to see the poo nurse (not her real job title) at the hospital every few weeks. He had Lactulose and Laxoberal (sodium picosulfate). The nurse said one was a softener and the other a pusher and work together

fraggle84 · 22/12/2018 15:46

So do I now stop the lactulose or reduce it?

He's having diarrhoea all day, 4th time he's soiled himself which he's never done before

I would stop it, see what his next poo is like then give as needed and stop as needed
