Chocolate for a vegetarian?

hidinginthenightgarden · 20/12/2018 13:35

Was going to gift some Lindt balls but have just read online that they are not vegetarian.
Does anyone know of any chocolates that are? They need to be available in the supermarket as I am gifting them this afternoon!
Thanks

Veggie or vegan? I'm vegetarian because meat, fish crustaceans and poultry make me seriously ill but I can have dairy so lindor are fine yummy

Lindt is vegetarian friendly. The dark varieties are generally vegan friendly too.

How are they not vegetarian?

Lucylugs · 20/12/2018 13:42

Black magic have veggie symbol on the back. I gave them to my vegetarian friend.

I don't know of any chocolate not suitable for vegetarians.Vegan is a different matter.

dogmum0 · 20/12/2018 13:43

Lindt is fine for vegetarians just unsuitable for vegans as it contains milk like most chocolate.

knittedjest · 20/12/2018 13:45

Unless you were buying chocolate covered bacon I don't see how chocolate isn't vegetarian. Maybe it had gelatin but even then most veggies don't avoid even that.

All the ones I know do! Gelatin, is boiled up animal hoof Shock

Thanks all. It said on Asda, I think in the review section that they weren’t. I will carry on as intended!

People write all sorts of crap in reviews. I'd take every word with a pinch of salt.

Maybe it was a dig at the use of palm oil and the impact of deforestation on wildlife. I can see the logic in objecting to that if your motive for vegetarianism is to avoid harm to living creatures.

RrreCansada · 20/12/2018 14:12

A vegetarian will still contribute to animal slaughter though. The dairy industry is extremely cruel.

E20mom · 20/12/2018 14:17

Yep to hotel chocolat

BarbaraofSevillle · 20/12/2018 14:23

If we are using the commonest definition of vegetarian, ie no meat or fish but dairy, then all chocolate (with the exception of the few with Turkish Delight or similar fillings which use gelatine) will be vegetarian.

Agree that the dairy industry is cruel and that there are people who say that only people who avoid dairy as well as meat and fish are actually 'vegetarian', but most people don't use that definition and it's reasonable to assume that the OP meant the standard definition of vegetarian, which includes dairy.
