Do you think I need to see a dr

I had a bit of a funny turn last night and can't decide if I need to see a dr or not. I'd had a busy day rushing about all over. I had eaten but not much, I think I'd had toast in the morning and some soup and bread in the afternoon. I was feeling hungry. While I was cooking dinner out of nowhere I started feeling really shaky. I sometimes feel like that if I have too much caffeine. I'd had some caffeine but not a lot I don't think. Anyway when I sat down to eat I suddenly felt really faint like I was actually going to pass out. I laid on my bed for a couple of minutes and then was absolutely fine, no other problems since and the shaking stopped immediately too.

For background, I've had one other episode that was the same several years ago. I hadn't eaten at all that time as I was unwell. I laid on the floor and the symptoms went. About ten years ago my blood pressure was low but as I've put in weight it's become in the normal range although I've not had it tested in about four years.

I am a stone overweight but don't have any other health problems. I guess what I'm asking is am I wasting my gps time with this or is it something that I need to see if there's an underlying reason for.

It sounds like you had low blood sugar. Because you hadnt eaten. If it happens again mention to your dr. Otherwise no need

As a one off I wouldn’t

imaflutteringkite · 20/12/2018 07:37

I thought that, then I stupidly googled it and it said if it happens in people without diabetes that's a "bad thing" and has all sorts of horrible sounding underlying causes.

Probably should step away from google

To be honest, it sounds as if you were really tired. Only you can know whether you are concerned enough to go to the doctor, and if you are, you should go. It doesn't sound as if you are a hypochondriac.

However, if you are back to normal after food/sleep/drink etc, it's likely that you just tired yourself out beyond your strength and should perhaps think about how you look after yourself on really busy days. See whether, with normal self care, it happens again. If it does, doc. If not, don't worry.

PS - carry a cake in your bag!

Sounds like low blood sugar to me too. If there wasn't the explanation that you hadn't eaten then that would perhaps be of more concern.

Thanks you've all made me feel better. Not sure why I was feeling so worried about it to be honest.

Sounds like low blood sugar I have to eat little and often DH a an go ages without eating then has a massive meal whereas I would have symptoms similar to yours if I follow his pattern. Also are you drinking enough water/liquid? I know it’s harder to do in the winter but sometimes when busy it’s easy to forget.

imaflutteringkite · 20/12/2018 07:49

I probably didn't drink enough no. I was running between school stuff and Christmas shopping. Now I've typed it out I can see there's an obvious answer Grin
