Going to get coil removed. What should I expect? [Edited by MNHQ at OP's request]

I've had it in nearly 2 years. Have bleeding for 2 weeks then a week off, terrible headaches, lots of spots and rough skin, think it may negatively effect my anxiety and depression and I'm just fed up with it.

Going to get it removed.

What shouldI expect pain wise and aftermath. Much bleeding/cramping? How long will it take to get a 'normal' period?

Sorry for asking here but doing it tomorrow so hoping for some experiences.

Thank you.

It won’t hurt because you’ll have anaesthetic. You might still feel it being removed, but it won’t hurt.

I went straight onto the pill after I had mine out so can’t comment on the aftermath!

I had mine removed 6th months ago or so now. No pain having it removed.
Aftermath was a heavy grim period, backache & a spotty back / neck

I had a similar experience. Had it out a week or so now and feel better already. My skin is already better and my arm has healed up alright. Not too much bruising. Will wait and see on the periods. I'd really like to not bleed for 3 weeks solid and then have a short gap anymore!

Had mine removed in June, due to irregular bleeding and ttc. Periods went straight back to normal, no adverse reactions.

Arm was a little sore for the rest of the day.

When I had mine removed, the removal was fine (anaesthetic before a small cut, implant taken out, steri-strips over it, job done)

My first period after was like all of the cramps I had avoided by having the implant had grouped together and hit me with a sledge hammer! I took lots of painkillers, drank loads of water, and moved between a warm bath and bed with a hot water bottle for most of the day (luckily I was off work) it was horrendous!

After the first one, they went back to normal for me (a bit of cramp, pre-men sporty chin and crazy chocolates)

I've been using one of those period tracker apps to keep track of when I was due on as my cycle has changed.

Crap I meant coil. I think I need a lay down. I'll see if can change title with MNHQ.

I had my mirena removed early last October, was dead easy, a little uncomfortable, but only for a second and nothing like getting it put in. I had a short period maybe 3 days later, about 4 days in length, then I had a regular 27 day cycle start up, it was great. Oh, and I go a positive pregnancy test on Christmas day (planned) if that's anytjing of a 'normal period' to go by.

PrincessFabian · 19/12/2018 22:59

The removal was fine, very quick and I barely felt it. But this was followed by the worst period of my life, very heavy, very painful with flooding and large clots (the size of a tampon) that I could feel coming out of me. I was not expecting this at all it took me completely by surprise but apparently it is normal Confused

PrincessFabian · 19/12/2018 23:01

Sorry if that was TMI but it is best to be prepared.
Also I was very fertile, I fell pregnant the first time we had sex about a week after the period from hell so be careful with alternative contraception if you don't want a baby Wink

I'd expected cramping but really there was a tugging feeling and a second worth of cramp but nothing else. Went straight to work after. The most uncomfortable thing was having the speculum put in really.

In the few days after that I had some minor spotting, but nothing much. I had a full period 2 weeks after.

My hormonal issues (lack of sex drive, pervasive anxiety) abated within a month. The severe cramping I had on and off for 2 years with mirena went instantly.

These stories sound promising re: pain. I hope bleeding isn't too bad but will stock up on plenty of max strength pads just in case.
