Does this cut need medical attention? (Pic included)

Poor dd1 (13) had a fall on the way to school this morning and cut and grazed both knees.

The school cleaned her up a bit and put plasters on but told her that she should get me to look at them tonight to see if she needs stitches. Hmm

One knee is grazed and looks like it has bits of gravel in. The other has a longish cut which is gapping a bit and still bleeding slightly. It also looks a bit dirty.

Any advice on how to clean and dress them? Or should I get her seen by a doctor/nurse?

Not an expert but DS had a similar/looking cut on his head last year and I brought him to A&E to have it glued.

Do you have a walk in near to you? I would think it would need at least steristrips or it will be a big scar.

IShitChristmasGlitter · 19/12/2018 18:37

i would want that steri striped at least. Am sure you can buy them at a chemist.

I think it wants looking at. Pharmacist advice at the very least.

Steristrips are archaic and terrible for wound healing. Take her to ooh so they can glue it.

A&E

strongandlong · 19/12/2018 18:40

Thanks both. The only options are a&e (with ooo gp attached) or pharmacy.

Sounds like a&e might be the way forward. They're pretty grubby, which isn't great. I'll break the news to her...

Yeah I’d get that stitched. Not sure if steristrips would do it, it’s an area that’s going to be moving around a lot and I don’t think they’d hold. If you want a nice tidy scar I think it would need stitches.

Wingbing · 19/12/2018 18:41

A pharmacist will look at that. No need for A& E

2019countdown · 19/12/2018 18:44

I used to do wound awareness training with pharmscists. Please take her to the ooh at a and e.

Back from A&E. They gave both knees a good scrub and glued the cut.

Dd thinks it was totally unnecessary, but I'm glad we went.

We picked a good time - arrival-triage-treatment-out in 15 mins!

Oh brilliant, that's great service, hope it's not too sore.

AwdBovril · 19/12/2018 20:56

Glad she's sorted - and wow! at the speedy turnaround time.
