Scratched a car

I'm going to leave a note but what exactly do I say? I am to blame but do I actually say this, or just say something like:
'I may have scratched you car, please call me on XX'
Or just 'please all me on XX '

What if a randomer picks up the note? (slightly joking there!)

The car has been outside my house since yesterday morning, don't know who it belongs to. I don't think it is abandoned, and I keep watching for anyone returning to it so I can catch them. However, is it better to do it by phone than in person?

Any advice?

My advice probably wouldn't go down well on here..

catmon · 19/12/2018 14:37

@donajimena I'm probably thinking what you're thinking

RestingBitchFaced · 19/12/2018 14:41

So your hoping you can get away with it if you miss them driving off? Otherwise why wouldn't you leave a note?

dancerdog · 19/12/2018 14:44

RestingBitchFaced erm I asked for advice on what to say.
I've had my car scratched several times and no-one has owned up. I am owning up. Thanks for your help.

What happened , scratched it with your car? Are they parked over your drive or something ?

dancerdog · 19/12/2018 14:47

They had parked pretty close to my car, but I misjudged the space available to pull out.

Just a leave a note asking them to call you.

They'll either do it or not; it's up to them. If they're not bothered by scratches, they won't, if they are, you can explain.

boringlyboring · 19/12/2018 14:51

RestingBitchFaced 😂😂 it’s literally the first line of the op. She is going to leave a note.

When I did this I put the first option, OP

catmon · 19/12/2018 14:51

I wouldn't want god knows who having my phone number , I'd leave it unless they knock on your door

SoyDora · 19/12/2018 14:53

RestingBitchFaced do you struggle with comprehension? The OP’s entire thread is about what she should write on the note that she’s going to leave...

greyspottedgoose · 19/12/2018 14:54

I wouldn't leave a note, anyone could pick it up

greyspottedgoose · 19/12/2018 14:55

Posted that too soon 😂 I'd keep an eye out, if they are parked outside your house they will more than likely knock and ask if you saw anything

tinkaroo · 19/12/2018 14:58

I drove into a parked car a few years ago and caused a big scratch. I couldn't for the life of me find the owner so I left a note saying "please call me regarding the damage to your car" left my phone number and took details of their reg and model of car on my phone. Stuck it under the window screen wiper.

DingDongDenny · 19/12/2018 15:01

I did this and the owner phoned me back and was really grateful I hadn't just walked away. I was nervous he'd be pissed off about the hassle, but he was lovely about it

dancerdog · 19/12/2018 15:09

Don't think they would knock the door as they would be unlikely to notice it immediately unless they inspect the back .

In my defence I have already asked the workmen nearby if it belonged to any of them. I think they they thought I was going to complain about where they had parked!

I think I won't give my number, in case a random crazy picked it up. I will ask them to knock on the door.

I've had to do this when my son going his door open into the car next to us.
Mine was in a public car park, so I had to leave my number.
The lady was lovely, and appreciated the note. She said not to worry about it, as she wasn't worried about the dent.

dancerdog · 22/12/2018 14:55

Just a wee update. A lady came to the door today, she hadn't seen the scratch on her car. She said 'oh it's an old car' but I suggested she go and look first!

Don't want to lose my no claims bonus but I feel like I did the right thing. (so can still take the moral high ground re whoever scratch my car.)
