PSA: Poundland Wrapping Paper... Should be called wiping paper..

I'm seriously thinking of swapping my toilet roll to Poundland wrapping paper. It's so thin and soft, may as well wipe my arse with it..

Guess what book I've photographed... Grin

Anyone else having wrapping woes today?

We bought a massive roll kraft recycled paper to wrap our presents in.. yep see through so we're now double layering to hide it.

Fireandfury1 · 19/12/2018 10:22

Amazingly not so many this year, thanks to the discounted, higher end, rolls bought in January sales —two years ago—. Along with the reused tags, it’s like a gift to myself!

ScienceIsTruth · 19/12/2018 10:22

Can hardly make it out as the sun is shining on my screen really badly, making anything hard to see, but I'd say it's "In The Night Garden".

Fireandfury1 · 19/12/2018 10:22

But I did chuckle as this happened to me most years Grin

ScienceIsTruth · 19/12/2018 10:23

Or "The Secret Garden".

ScienceIsTruth · 19/12/2018 10:25

Yah, same here, Fireandfury1, I also bought some lovely luxury Christmas cards in the January sale too. They were pretty much giving them away!

KlutzyDraconequus · 19/12/2018 10:33

Do you think I could ask 5year old to wait till February for her presents as Santa was trying to save money on wrapping paper, got annoyed, ripped it all up and had gin instead of wrapping?
She'd be okay with that wouldn't she? Grin

Good old Frances Hodgeson Burnett! On the plus side, it's a bloody great book! Has the recipient also read the Little Princess?

RomanyRoots · 19/12/2018 12:15

I bought the twelve days of xmas wrapping paper from poundshop with matching bag, it's really good quality.

ToastyFingers · 19/12/2018 12:37

I'm literally using that paper as we speak and it hasn't been see through at all. Not fantastic quality at 3 rolls for a quid but not as bad as yours! Maybe you got a duff one?

KlutzyDraconequus · 19/12/2018 13:03

Has the recipient also read the Little Princess

This is her first big girl book really. Till now it's been Peppa pig books and the gruffalo and things like that. She reads them so well I thought I'd get her something more challenging. I heard The Secret Garden is a great first 'proper' book.

I really liked thin wrapping paper as a child and still prefer it now. Has a lovely tearing quality.
The thick stuff doesn't feel nice and you end up undoing the sellotape rather than ripping.
I've used brown paper with beautiful printed patterns made by my students. Looks stunning with string and wooden tags. Glad I am not getting gufts wrapped in it. Just too thick.

DeepanKrispanEven · 21/12/2018 07:32

Oh dear, I got that paper yesterday. Where can I get cheap and cheerful plain paper to line it?

ciderhouserules · 21/12/2018 07:34

This stuff is also NOT recycylable.

I'm using the Financial Times this year! Pretty pink(ish), and thick enough but tearable. Tied with a pretty rope ribbon.

BadgerWithSprouts · 21/12/2018 07:35

I bought a couple of cheap rolls of paper from Aldi as spares and my goodness it’s lovely and thick and even has the gridlines on the back to make it easier to cut neat lines. That’s not much comfort to you OP but I was really surprised

paintinmyhairAgain · 21/12/2018 07:40

cider financial times wrapping paper and rope ribbon that's novel - i like it ! Smile

MadisonAvenue · 21/12/2018 07:40

I bought my wrapping paper from Primark this year, it’s lovely and thick and iirc only £1.50 for 5m.

TrickyD · 21/12/2018 07:40

I have gone for the brown paper and red and white twine look this year, as I had seen so many pictures of beautifully wrapped and smart parcels. Mine are a scruffy mess. Sellotape won't stick to the paper, nor will labels. The string alone won't hold the paper around awkwardly shaped presents. It will be back to festive wrap next year.

TarragonSauce · 21/12/2018 08:27

DH is the wrapping elf here and has set himself up a wrapping room in a cupboard upstairs. He has about 20 different designs to choose from, and 7 rolls of sticky tape.
His main complaint this year is that the paper is 'too rolly'. What does that even mean? How can rolls of paper be too rolly.

NancyDonahue · 21/12/2018 08:35

When you buy cheap stuff you generally have to wrap it over twice. So you need to work out if it's worth it.

However, I got some flat packed wrapping paper in poundstretcher to wrap stocking presents. £1 For 10 sheets. It's so thick and amazing quality. I'm going to try and get back down there later to stock up for next year.

NancyDonahue · 21/12/2018 08:38

I reuse tags. They must be on their 5th/6th year now. Although teen dd will Hmm at 'Love from mummy and daddy' Xmas Grin

WindyWednesday · 21/12/2018 08:38

I got a big roll from wilkco, can’t recall the price. But it’s amazing quality. Very impressed.

LittleLongDog · 21/12/2018 08:39

Wilkos wrapping paper has been good this year.

KlutzyDraconequus · 21/12/2018 09:06

Well I used the see through paper up and headed back to town for more paper. Came back with more Poundland paper.. but it was the 'luxury' stuff which was much much better.

Come the morning, the lights will have to be off and just the light of the tree..

I'm sure "too rolly" means that it rolls up again too easily, instead of lying flat. It is a very old problem.

The messenger handed him a scroll. He unrolled it, but it rolled up again: they always did this.
