Hi oh wise Mumsnetters. So I had a fall yesterday evening and fell quite hard onto my left hand. It was immediately sore around my left wrist on the side towards my little finger, (not horribly painful, just a bit achey). It's been achey since and it's a bit puffy around that side of my wrist and up towards my little finger, but it's not particularly painful to touch and I have no problems moving it so I'm pretty certain it's not fractured or anything. I had some on and off pins and needles in my left hand last night too. Is it worth getting checked out or is it probably just a bit bruised? I don't want to drag both DDs out to minor injuries unless I really have to, or waste anyone's time. Will try and attach a pic in a bit.

I normally just leave injuries for at least a week, unless they are really painful.

You've got to allow for tendon and ligament damage, as well.

I'm very clumsy.

Sounds like it's just bruised.

Have you iced it? Taken paracetamol and ibuprofen (if no contraindications)?

Bobbiepin · 19/12/2018 07:58

If there's no significant bruising, swelling or pain then give it a couple of days and reassess if you wake up in pain, or are consistently unable to complete usual activities (e.g. find your self brushing you teeth with the other hand, can't carry a plate of food) then minor injuries.

If the pins and needles becomes consistent and doesn't stop, or you lose sensation or blood flow then A&E.

Thank you for your replies. That's what I was thinking. Think I'll just give it a few days and see how it goes. Thank you wise Mumsnetters!

Finally managed to attach a picture! Not obviously bruised, just slightly puffy.

But I agree, I think I just need to give it a couple of days as it'll probably settle down in a couple of days.

It is possible for it to be broken, even with a full range of movement. My mum didn't get my sister's hairline fracture in her wrist seen until 3 days later when she kept complaining! She could move her wrist and hand, and grip etc.

Thanks for your reply MrsKCastle. I'm hoping it's just sprained as it's more 'achey' than anything. If it doesn't get any better in a couple of days or it gets more swollen I'll get it looked at though. x
