What would you do with no phone or wallet in a strange town?

Kind of inspired by a dream (or nightmare) where I was in a strange town (seemed to be UK based) a managed to lose my phone and have wallet stolen.

What would you do? I can't remember anyone's phone number. I mean this must have happened to someone. Would you have to hitch hike?

Does anyone have any experience?

I did this although reasonably locally, no phone, no money, about 5 miles from home in the days when there were still police stations. So I thought surely they could lend me a bus fare until following day. Id worked late, so not drunk, not scruffy, just stuck at about 10pm. They were as unhelpful as they could have been although they didn't openly laugh in my face. Long walk in the dark across unlit heathland. Hope it doesn't happen to anyone else.

I appreciate all the stories though some are a bit grim.

I do think it's a scary sign of the times maybe. We aren't always that we'll connected without technology and there are also some who don't have many others in their lives.
