DD 9 wants a big birthday party a week after Christmas but I think it is too soon to be expecting people to attend and spend after Xmas. Although I do feel sorry for her as she never really gets a party with her birthday falling just after Christmas. WWYD

It's a bit short notice now - most people already have plans for those days. Could you do her a party half way through January?

I guess we could put it off for a few weeks and tell people no presents needed. Just don’t want to put pressure on people and also don’t want DD to be disappointed if no one really turns up due to the time of year

I would get her to plan An 11th Birthday party just before she leaves primary and this year have a couple of friends round. That is what I did with 1 of mine who has a not long after christmas birthday.

Why does DD never really get a party because her birthday falls just after Christmas? My Christmas birthday sibling always had a school-friends birthday party in the second or third weekend of January.

You can have a party in mid-January instead. If you invite her friends now, they will hold off on giving her cards and present until her party.

My DD has a few friends whose birthdays are over the Christmas hols or early Jan and so far have had parties most years. Some people inevitably can’t make it due to other plans, but I’ve never thought it a pain to buy pressies for them - in fact they often get nicer things that I’ve got in the sale! I wouldn’t avoid a party just because of the time of year.
