Fed up of shaving bikini line and waxing is so painful. IPL, laser or electrolysis?

I've just had my bikini line waxed and the thought of doing that every 6 weeks is torture. But shaving is crap, stubble by the next day.

I'm thinking of saving up to have something more permanent done but I'm confused by the different options. I don't want to end up paying £500 for something that might not work! What would you recommend??

I’ve been looking at buying one of the lights they were half price.

Any thing to stop the itch. But it’s out my price range

Cranky17 · 18/12/2018 14:59

That’s for the Ipl light

I was just reading that electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal treatment, not sure if that's right..

I bought an IPL last year, the phillips lumea. I didn't get the newest version so mine was around £250 which is still expensive but great. I got it mostly for legs and underarms, but have used it on bikini line too and it's been great. It does take a few months to notice a difference though, particularly on the bikini line area.

I'm having IPL at a clinic. It's not the cheap option but it's very good!! I've had my lower legs done already and now I'm doing upper legs and bikini line.

I did a lot of reading around different options and was persuaded to invest in the higher cost of professional IPL at a decent clinic. Buying your own machine to use at home doesn't have the same longevity results and can end up leaving you with finer hair, and finer hair then doesn't respond as well to IPL.

Thanks for the replies. Is ipl permanent though? I can't justify that kind of money if it's temporary

I’ve just finished 8 sessions of laser and honestly could not be happier. Totally depends on your hair/skin type but I noticed a huge difference from the first session and no more horrible ingrown hairs or shaving rash. I used Skn and although it was pricey I paid in monthly interest free instalments and they always have deals on around January time. I don’t work for them promise! But genuinely feel it’s given me so much more confidence and I’m so happy with the results

I bought a lumea a few months ago and never looked back. I don’t bother with my legs as i don’t have the patience but under my arms and bikini area it’s been amazing! There’s only a line of hairs that I keep missing but no rash anymore when I shave them. You give it another zap every few weeks to maintain.

You have to have the right skin and hair colour for it to work though- I’m very pale with very dark hair so ideal candidate.

I had my ( crazy huge) bikini line done with IPL about 10 years ago and it’s still hairless. It was a groupon voucher so cost about £100. I needed a couple more so bought another course of 6 and used the remaining 4 on my arm pits.
It is possibly the best money I’ve ever spent.
You have a patch test and are asked to shave 48 hours before the appointment, then they zap away. It’s a mild zap, like being pinged with an elastic band, but totally doable, much less painful than waxing.

With ipl can you go in the sun afterwards?
I seem to remember with laser you have to avoid it for a week or so?
