Someone keeps ordering take away to my house

As the title says...

4 times in the last 10 days someone has ordered a take away to my house. First time, 9pm someone knocks, I answer, it's a take away. The numbers on the houses on our street aren't very viable so it's quite common for delivery drivers etc to get the wrong number. So I say we haven't ordered anything who's it for? He said number (My door number) I say I haven't ordered anything he's saying I did, he then rings the number used to call up not mine or DH number.

Same thing has happened another three times from three different take away.

I don't know who it is or why? The food hasn't been paid for online either because everytime the driver has said an amount as soon as I've opened the door.

We love in a large village and there's a few take away of different things but my worry is is that we don't order very often but if we do they might not want to bring it out because they will think it's a prank again.

Also I'm fed up of it now, last night it was just gone 11.

How do I stop it?

For perspective, there's over 100 houses on my street and my close neighbours are eitherbliving alone, elderly and 1 close neighbour has 2 adult kids (about 18 and 20). So I can't accuse anyone either. It's annoying

As far as I know we haven't pissed anyone off. I'm friendly with neighbours on either side. I know some others to say hello to.

DH seems to think it's someone playing stupid.

Take away drivers never ask for a name around here. Not when you place an order over the phone or when they come to the door. So no hope of a name, although if it's a joke they would give a fake one anyway.

We live in a very large village and have 4 pizza/burger places, 1 indian, 3 Chinese. All take aways have been pizzas. It's mind boggling

Maybe the person who's doing it is pissed off with the pizza takeaways, rather than pissed off with you? So they're ordering pizzas just to a random address - yours. But they're not very smart though, you'd think they'd pick a different random address each time.

LadyPasserine · 18/12/2018 17:15

Pizzas makes me think Italian.

Godfathers. Heads of black stallions under the bed sheets. Shock

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 18/12/2018 17:36

Put a sign up by the front door that says "I have not ordered any takeaway - please call the number on the order for the correct address"

PoisonousSmurf · 18/12/2018 17:44

Ditto to that, Note on door.
Wish we could have a take away, live so far out in the sticks that no one delivers Sad

MissEliza · 18/12/2018 23:00

My df, many years ago, had to report an employee to the police for fraud, for which she ended up in prison. In retaliation, her mates started sending home deliveries and taxis to our house. Of course we don't know that but we strongly suspected given the timing (and a couple of anonymous phone calls). You should think about who nay have a grudge.

hannah1992 · 19/12/2018 05:54

Morning! So I called 2 of the take away last night.

They said they get loads of hoax calls and they tend to target a particular address then move on to another.

Very weird.

I went with the idea of putting a note on the door and hopefully it will stop now.

I don't think it's targeted. I haven't reported anyone for anything or fallen out with anyone.

Must be annoying for the companies as well. Can you ask them to call you if an order comes in for your address in future, so they can double check if it's real or not? That way they won't be wasting their time and money so they might agree to that.

Obviouspretzel · 19/12/2018 06:38

There is no way this is a mistake! Someone is doing it to piss you off, try and work out who it could be. If it was a mistake then it wouldn't keep happening because when they called the person they would work out what had gone wrong...

DoveSecret · 19/12/2018 07:10

Its a problem the takeaway has. Their responsibility to take payment over the phone and this will stop.

AwakeNow · 19/12/2018 07:21

I remember hearing teenagers laughing and talking about having done this, to a nieghbour years ago. They (kids)watched it all arrive and thought it hilarous.

Any teens near you?

AlwaysSomethingThere · 19/12/2018 07:39

This would really stress me out OP. If it happens again give the number to the police.

comedycentral · 19/12/2018 08:20

I've heard of this quite a bit, it's malicious and intentional. Have you or DH fallen out with anyone?

wowfudge · 19/12/2018 10:10

Most of this kind of thing is not targeted or personal. It's down to idiots who think it's funny and essentially victimless, except of course it costs the business money and upsets the randomly chosen recipient.

hannah1992 · 19/12/2018 11:19

The only teens I know of in close proximity is next door but they are about 18 so I would hope a bit more mature to find that funny.

I spoke to my 2 neighbours on either side of me and told them just in case they start getting it.

I'll stick a note on the door for the next few days and see what happens with that.

One of the take away I spoke to last night said that if they receive hoax calls from the same number numerous times they report to the police

OP posts:
Holly2017 · 19/12/2018 11:33

Could it be one of the other takeaways? There are only 10. I would make a note and take it to all of them making sure they know all the places know

MumUnderTheMoon · 19/12/2018 13:29

If it happens again ring your local police station and let them know about it. If they can investigate they will.

Avebury · 21/12/2018 00:01

I've had this and it was the people opposite ordering through Uber Eats

AGHHHH · 21/12/2018 00:06

Any way you can get a copy of the number and search it on Facebook? If it's linked to an account it should come up. Or ask them to do it.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 21/12/2018 10:14

I had this happen 2 or 3 times, each time for someone named Crystal. My name is certainly not Crystal. Only difference was the meals were pre paid.

Eventually it stopped; they must have realised why their dinner never showed up.

Stroller15 · 21/12/2018 10:21

My dh has a takeaway shop, they get loads of hoax calls. There is even a serial offender that orders a case of prosecco each week. If it happens a lot, the shop will let the police know. I don't think it's necessarily personal so agree with putting a note up.
