What did you spend your pocket money on as a teenager?

Assuming that as a teenager you had a bit of money to spend on things that weren’t strict necessities, but still didn’t have loads of cash to splash, what kind of things did you buy?

I was born 1980. My pocket money, birthday money, babysitting money went on:

Magazines (especially Just Seventeen).
Body Shop lip balms and fruity soaps.
Guitar strings and plectrums.
Stationery.
Sweets (especially sherbet stuff, kola kubes and the like).
Bus fares to town.
Cinema tickets.
Glitter or pastel nail polish.
The NME.
Cassette singles.
Wimpy burgers and milkshakes.
Body sprays.
Glow in the dark plastic stars for my bedroom ceiling.

My pocket money was £3 a week from mum. But given £5 daily before school for lunches ect. Every fortnight my grandparents would give £15 too. I would save any money received from birthday and xmas ect.
Money was spent on -
Clothes from primark and new look
Strawberry laces
PS games on sale in MVC or hmv!
Occasional cd

ifigoup · 18/12/2018 13:07

Oh yes! Stamps for writing to my many penpals! I’d forgotten about that!

Only one person has mentioned trainers so far; I used to spend loads on trainers - my favourites were Reebok Classic, which I always wore without socks. I didn't care about any other clothes though.

Spice Girls CDs, and I went to one of their concerts. I nervously handed money to my dad, so I could book it using his debit card. I was terrified as it was the first time I had booked something on the phone, but I really wanted to go!

Sorry- teenager in the 80s. The records were mostly punk/mod/new wave.

I also used to go for a milkshake with my friend after the record shop.

I remember Flip! Amazing shop. I got a Levi denim waistcoat which I thought was so cool there!

dingdang · 18/12/2018 21:49

Otherwise I spent my money on luzocade, fags, booze and books...

llangennith · 18/12/2018 22:11

Chips after swimming club. Witch hazel from the pharmacist for my occasional spot. I wasn't a typical make-up obsessed teenager😂

richierichardsaunt · 18/12/2018 22:16

Pink lady, thunderbird and if we could afford them bottles of grolsch so we could put the tops on our shoes...

sophisticatedsarcasm · 18/12/2018 22:48

Woolworths pick a mix
CDs or cassettes
Slush puppies as the local corner shop sold them and you could win free ones.
Walkers for the tazos
Pogs

Longdistance · 18/12/2018 22:53

Mainly magazines and craft stuff. I used to sew, knit and crochet (strange child), but enjoyed it as a hobby, and made stuff for charity at school.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 18/12/2018 23:06

Books and the odd trip to the cinema. I was antisocial.

poppiesallykatie · 20/12/2018 23:12

A lot of the above and nowadays kids sadly want to spend it on 'robux' or similar, buying credits to dress or equip a virtual character in a virtual world. So depressing.
